Consistently the best food and service anywhere in town. Excellent menu with everything from simple appetizers to great steaks and fish and even Neapolitan style pizza. Great selection of draft beer as well as a great wine menu. The service is always good. They consistently have good live music every day of the week.

ohhhh man. This is easily some of the best Thai & Vietnamese cuisine i've had. And you can virtually see it from the deck outside . . . it's just on the other side of the park, but obscured by the spruce and fir trees in the park. easy walk.

Really great Chinese cuisine offered strictly for takeout. Li, the owner, pretty much runs the whole show by herself - so call ahead and place your order, and it's also just across the park from you. Over to the west side (towards the mountains), and is an easy walk.

RIVERWALK AND LAKE TRAIL!!
just across the river from you is the paved walkway known as the riverwalk. Get on that path and head east (towards town) and it will take you past shops and galleries and eateries alike, ultimately leading you right to Lake Estes and the 5 mile loop trail around the lake. Bikes? yes, you can rent them at the Estes Park Mountain shop, which also happens to be just off the loop trail. so you could rent em and ride em back here to Riverside House.

even in mid summer, the weather can change quickly here; and a quick downpour and a temperature drop of 15 degrees will leave you miserable and in danger of hypothermia. always dress in layers, and carry extra in your vehicle.

you're at 7522' above sea level. there's less oxygen here - so your respiration increases, and you lose wayyy more moisture from your body than usual. staying hydrated is crucial to maintaining a good time here. got a headache? DRINK WATER!!!

Encounters with Elk
Elk are a prevalent force of nature here. Many people are tempted to approach them - for whatever reason: selfies, feeding cheetos and the like. Whatever the reason, DO NOT APPROACH THE ELK. It's AGAINST THE LAW for a reason. Many times, people get hurt by a spooked animal - whether an aggressive bull or a cow protective of her calf . . . and when someone gets hurt, that animal has to be put down (killed) by Colorado Wildlife Management. It's not the animals fault . . . it's the person responsible. Don't be that person.

Encounters with Bears
Like elk, bears are a fairly common aspect of life in Estes Park. While most people have an innate fear of an encounter with them, they're actually more fearful of you . . . they will likely turn tail and run if they encounter you (and it could be right outside the front door). Make sure not to leave ANY food items in your car (even bags from McDonalds and the like will attract them). They will open the doors or break windows to get inside, and typically, your car will be totalled. That's right. Totalled. I can show you pictures . . . Don't do it.

Encounters with Mountain Lions
Unlike Elk and Bears, encounters with mountain lions (cougars) are relatively rare. This does not mean that they're not around . . . they're just really good at staying out of sight. While Elk and Bears pose a minimal threat to humans, lions are another story. They are predators. They may see you as prey. If you're hiking in the wilderness, carry a walking stick, travel in pairs at least, and don't allow children to travel even a short distance ahead or behind. If you do encounter a lion, raise your arms, make yourselves as big as you can, and back slowly away. DO NOT RUN.

Altitude Sickness
Acute Mountain Sickness can be a problem here.
Here are symptoms to watch out for . . .
headache, partnered with any of the following:
loss of appetite, nausea; fatigue or weakness; dizziness; difficulty sleeping; confusion; staggering gait; unusual tiredness; mood swings; impaired memory, or "deep inner chill".
Some contributing factors: alcohol; sleeping pills; narcotic pain medications; tobacco.
Don't take these symptoms lightly.
If you think you're experiencing AMS, go to Urgent Care, to the Emergency room, or call 911.

MIND THE RIVER!!
Be mindful of the river. It’s mostly shallow, but right here off the deck, it’s deep enough to swim in - and during the spring run-off, this water can be treacherous. That means caution if you have young ones with you - or if you can't swim.
