Sightseeing

On our door step (4 km to carpark or for the more experienced climber you can traverse the mountain from the Eastern side) which is walking distance (16 km round trip). Croagh Patrick is an iconic pilgrimage site. For those who climb it is a difficulty mountain but has a very clear, defined gravelly path. Climbers should allow 4 hours & bring correct climbing equipment - Hiking shoes/boots, climbing poles ( Sticks available to rent/buy at @Toughatthetop which is in carpark) Plenty of water, power bank & correct clothing for all weather is advised. Slow & steady will get you there. For those not able for the full climb there is a lovely walk along the bottom section which starts in the carpark at Murrisk also.

Our favourite - Clare Island is 3 miles from the port of Roonagh (9 km from this accommodation). With regular daily sailings, it is a must visit for walkers, beach goers etc. Bikes can very rented or you can rent your own. There are two ferry companies - O Malley's and O Grady's. Two lovely pubs that serve excellent food ( Try the Catch of the Day in the Community Centre Bar) There are beautiful walks to the old Abbey & the Lighthouse. The Island boasts its Blue Flag Beach in the harbour.

Achill has it all - beaches, cliff climbs and more. The famous Keem beach is definitely worth a visit. It's a day trip (or more) but worth the journey

At the foot of The Reek, Campbells serves a limited but tasty menu. It is a meeting place for those enjoying a pint after tackling the mountain

Tia is more than a bakery. It also has a sister Tia By The River restaurant also in Louisburgh. So for a take away coffee accompanied by homemade pastries & sandwiches or for a lovely meal, Tia is recommended.
