Fleur du Lac is located in the village of Berrien Springs in Berrien County, Michigan. It is a small college town with a population of 1,717 as of the 2020 census. The village is best known for its Seventh-day Adventist community and Andrews University. Many of the businesses in the village are closed on Saturdays. The downtown area of the village supports a Speedway gas station, several restaurants and fast food outlets and a supermarket for groceries.
The village is on the shores of Lake Chapin and the St. Joseph river. The hydro-electric dam that runs across the St. Joseph river is the last dam between the headwaters of the St. Joseph River and Lake Michigan. The area just below the dam is a very popular fishing area – there are Steelhead (trout) and Salmon runs in the early through mid-Autumn. At other times, one can often find walleye, bass and suckers in the river both above and below the dam. Fishing charters are also available to Lake Michigan from the nearby city of St. Joseph.
Berrien County is also home to many fruit orchards, with U-pick opportunities aplenty. The abundance of vineyards the area places us in the middle of the SW Michigan Wine Trail, with no less than 8 vineyards within a 20-minute drive.
