If you visiting Chester for the races then you will not be disappointed, it's a day when the racegoers dress to impress and celebrate in style! It's typically a 10 to 15 min drive on a normal day, but can be much longer at weekends and when the races are on. Remember the whole City gets very, very busy when the races are on, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time when travelling to and from the venue and when eating or sightseeing in the City.

Chester is a unique and beautiful city, a Roman-built and walled city, with a small castle, historic amphitheater, and Roman gardens. The River Dee passes along the south of the City, along with the park. There is the historic Cathedral and several churches open to the tourists. Lots of places to eat and many shops to visit!

Once you arrive in the City expect to do some walking!

Chester is a small and beautiful city, you can visit it multiple times and still see something new with each visit. The train station is just outside of the city, so you can get a bus to the city bus station or a taxi without any issues. If you are driving then Chester has several car parks, most of which are multi-story and can get expensive. Some people prefer to use the outer park and ride bus system. You can usually walk all the way around the old Roman City walls as well as get guided tours if booked in advance. The Cathedral is open to the public and it has free toilets!

Guided City Tours, Walking, and Tour Buses.

Groups can book guided tours, Check out the city websites. There are also the red open-top tour buses in operation which you can usually just get a ticket from the vendors in the Town Hall area. My only tip is don't believe everything the tour guide says during your tour, but it's a great way to learn more and see the City! ;)

Group travel and book in advance.

To get the cheapest prices to venues booking in advance and group bookings are the way to save money. Traveling by bus is the cheapest way to get in and out of the city. Bus stops are outside our property on the main road. The Bus stop directly over the road from our property is the stop when you are coming from the city. The driver will understand if you say 'a ticket to The Countess Pub (previously called Frog Pub)'. If you are traveling from the Countess Pub (previously called The Frog Pub) by bus to the City then you should request a return ticket to get it cheaper on your return.

The boat rides on the River Dee and other things to see.

The town crier can often be seen at 'the cross'. It's in the center of the city where the four main roads meet. The Roman soldier tours are fun to see also. The clock tower which you see in all the pictures of Chester is accessible from below via the steps to the city walls. The roman amphitheater is a must-see, and the nearby roman gardens and baths. The river has a bandstand and you can often sit and have a nice ice cream whilst listening to the free entertainment and watch the tour boats go up and down the river.

good comfortable shoes are a must!

The city is mainly a pedestrian-only city so to get around to sightsee you will be walking a lot so good comfortable footwear is a must. The British weather can change rapidly so make sure you have light clothing layers which you can easily add or remove.
