Welcome to Haddiscoe Hideaways

Haddiscoe Hideaways - Introduction

A warm welcome is waiting for all of our guests to one of two detached holiday homes set in 8 acres of private gardens - 'The Hayloft and The Grain Store'. We launched Haddiscoe Hideaways following the completion of the conversion of a barn, 'The Grain Store', in October 2020. This followed the success of 'The Hayloft', which was our first holiday home three years earlier and Villa Cristal in the Almeria region of Spain several years earlier. The name, Haddiscoe Hideaways, came by chance from our online family quizzes during the first Covid-19 lockdown in 2020. We’re dedicated to providing you with a relaxing and peaceful getaway, to help you unwind and to enjoy the local area. We really hope you'll enjoy your time spent with us and look to return, year after year.
Haddiscoe is a village and civil parish in the South Norfolk district of Norfolk, England, about 16 miles southeast of Norwich. The parish is on the county boundary with Suffolk, about 7 miles west-northwest of Lowestoft. St Mary's church - One of the best known of Norfolk's round-towered churches, not least because of its attractive exterior and dramatic setting. A great bleached whale of a church, it sits on a hill above the Reedham to Beccles road, its telescopic tower a landmark for miles. In this corner of Norfolk with hundreds of tiny churches and a multitude of Norman survivals, it stands out as being of tremendous interest, an intriguing and impressive place. (Turn right out of the drive and first left, continue straight and the church will sit in front of you) Haddiscoe has a village hall and beside this is a wonderful park for young children. (Turn right out of the drive and continue straight, the park and village hall can be found on the right)

Aldeburgh is a North Sea coastal English town in the county of Suffolk, north of the River Alde. Its estimated population was 2,276 in 2019. Aldeburgh is world-renowned thanks to its connection with Benjamin Britten, the founder of the Aldeburgh Festival, which takes place in June every year. Pastel-coloured 19th Century holiday villas line the promenade and to the east, the pebble beach with fisherman’s huts selling the daily catch. The town gets its name from ‘Alde’ and ‘burgh’ meaning ‘old fort’ and is a former Tudor port given borough status by Henry VIII himself. The town and its shipbuilders were responsible for the creation of several famous vessels; Sir Francis Drake’s Golden Hind and the Virginia Company’s Sea Venture, to name but a few. Aldeburgh has a rich cultural identity and is home to the Aldeburgh Literary Festival, multiple galleries and iconic sculptures as well as the Aldeburgh Music Club started by Benjamin Britten and Peter Pears in 1952. Keep your eyes peeled for some of the well known people who call Aldeburgh home, from former Manchester United and Ireland midfielder Roy Keane to Peter Sinfield, founding member and lyricist for 70’s prog rock band King Crimson. The town is famous for its outstanding fish and chips with the local fish and chip shop, owned by the Cooney family having received rave reviews from national publications. The Martello tower in Aldeburgh is recorded as the largest in the UK, being made up of four towers joined together, it has been converted into holiday accommodation and is a unique place to stay when visiting the town.

The Raveningham Estate is a traditional rural Estate of some 5,500 acres situated south of Norwich in South Norfolk. It has been home to the Bacon family since 1735. The main activity is farming, they grow mostly arable crops which include oil seed rape, wheat, barley, sugar beet, peas and potatoes. A pedigree herd of Sussex cattle and a small flock of Norfolk Horn sheep graze the Park surrounding Raveningham Hall. Elsewhere on the Estate they have a large flock of Suffolk ewes. The Estate includes 500 acres of semi ancient natural woodland which provides renewable energy and high quality timber. Woodchip from their timber is used to supply 4 bio mass boilers on the Estate and we have recently built a floating PV installation on a reservoir, increasing our PV installations to 4. The Estate is committed to renewable energy. They have a strong emphasis on conservation, biodiversity and creating new habitats whilst improving and enhancing existing ones. Raveningham Hall, was built around 1750 by an unknown architect for Sir Edmund Bacon the 8th and 9th Baronet. The Hall is Grade II* listed and home to Sir Nicholas Bacon the 14th and 15th Baronet and his family. Raveningham Gardens Raveningham Gardens and the Park are protected by shelter belts of woodland. These create a kinder environment for the herbaceous and mixed borders, wildflower meadows and rolling lawns. The walled Victorian kitchen garden provides more shelter for fruit, vegetables and cut flowers such as sweet peas. The Gardens hark back to Edwardian plans with the planting enhanced in the 1960s by Priscilla, Lady Bacon. The current owner’s mother, she was an energetic plantswoman who collected many rare species from around the world transforming the Garden over 50 years. The walled kitchen garden was brought back to full working order in the last 20 years and is now producing fruit, vegetables and flowers for the House. There is a fine late 19th century Boulton and Paul range of glasshouses, stocked conservatory and melon pits, all in working order. A lovely coastal village of Blakeney is one of the most enchanting on the North Norfolk Coast. Blakeney started life as a busy medieval commercial port until the estuary began to silt up preventing all but pleasure craft from gaining access. The silting has left a fascinating landscape of marshes, sand hills and mud banks, with many creeks and channels twisting and turning their way through. Blakeney village is set on a small hill leading down to the harbour and has pretty flint cottages, shops, cafe's, restaurants, hotels, pubs and inns. In a side street off the quay is the 14th century Guildhall which has an early example of a brick built vaulted ceiling. The beautifully restored, village church is large and spacious with many interesting features. Postcode district: NR25 It has also got its own nature reserve. Blakeney Freshes comprises of approximately 160 hectares of freshwater grazing marsh. It is an important area for breeding birds and over-wintering wildfowl and is popular with birdwatchers.
