Petit Champlain is a neighbourhood in the Old Quebec City. It's the oldest commercial district in North America. Legendary Place Royale is steeped in history. It was here that Samuel de Champlain chose to erect his Abitation, which served as a fort, storehouse, trading post and residence when he arrived in 1608. It was the first permanent French settlement in North America. Place Royale is also home to Notre-Dame-des-Victoires, the oldest stone church in North America, built in 1688. The French influence is evident everywhere you look in Place Royale and along Rue du Petit-Champlain. The two-and-three-storey plastered stone homes with their dormer windows, gabled roofs, large chimneys and party walls rising above the rooftops to act as firewalls are all typical of the French architectural style of the time.

Designed by Eugène-Étienne Taché, the Parliament Building is a monument to the glory of the women and men who marked the history of Québec and French America. Built between 1877 and 1886 in the architectural style of the Second Empire and inspired by the expansion of the Louvre in Paris, this unique structure was recognized as a Québec national historic monument in 1985. Its architecture and rich ornamentation illustrate the words engraved above the main entrance, “Je me souviens” (I remember), which later became Québec’s motto. Many species of trees, shrubs and plants representative of the wide variety of flora native to Québec can be observed when walking around the gardens surrounding the Parliament Building. http://www.assnat.qc.ca/en/visiteurs/parlement/hotel-parlement.html

Just 30 minutes from Québec City, you’ll fall under the spell of a vast mountainous plateau cut by deep valleys. Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier is host to one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Québec, the spectacular Vallée de la Jacques-Cartier. The Jacques Cartier River, calm in some places and turbulent in others, has sliced a 550-metre-deep channel into the plateau. A coniferous forest dominates the high plateaus, and deciduous trees people the deep valleys. Here, nature is both inspiring and serene. Like the first explorers of Rivière Jacques-Cartier, you can discover this majestic valley by canoe. Much appreciated by white water enthusiasts, this sleek, speedy vessel is perfectly suited for lengthy outings. Offering a significant cargo capacity, canoes are the ideal watercraft for canoe-camping or for an excursion on calm waters. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, kayak is a great way to discover the dazzling scenery of the Jacques-Cartier Valley. The kayaks for rent at the park are of the open “sit-on-top” variety, which are easy to board and disembark. The more flared shape of their hulls and their width makes them stable. Note that the wider tandem kayak is even more stable. The capacity for this kayak is 2 people for the tandem kayak and 1 person for the solo kayak. A short segment of the river without rapids is accessible for stand up paddle surfing. Standing on a big surfboard, paddle in hand, you can test your balance. It’s fast and easy to learn, and it’s guaranteed fun! We recommend that you rent the equipment for an hour. Rental includes the board, the paddle, and a life jacket. You can fish for speckled trout on Rivière Jacques-Cartier and on some lakes in the l'Épaule, Jumeau and Sautauriski sectors. You can also go fly fishing on Lac Cook in La Vallée sector. You could also catch a young salmon in Rivière Jacques-Cartier. Throw it back in the water. Salmon fishing is prohibited in the park. A right of access for day fishing and a fishing licence are mandatory. No sale of fishing licenses at the park during the 2021 season. Three mountain bike trails will show you the park's splendours. You have at your disposal over 30 km of trails, ranging in level from easy to very difficult. Over 100 km of hiking trails will show you the park's most scenic landscapes. As you walk by a turbulent river or through a yellow birch stand, the trail may open out on to an exceptional view. https://www.sepaq.com/pq/jac/index.dot?language_id=1
