Good Eats

My favorite breakfast places in the neighborhood are actually on Sanchez Street and within walking distance of the flat. At 18th and Sanchez you’ll find Le Marais Bakery…a great spot for coffee and pastries. At 16th and Sanchez is Kitchen Story. Kitchen Story is famous for their millionaire’s bacon and killer omelets. For quick eats, a block away from the flat is Saucy Asian and Kasa Indian Eatery. If you’d like more sit down type places for dinner, in the Castro, check out my favorite spot, Poesia. Also in the neighborhood are Santeria, Starbelly or Wooden Spoon. There are literally hundreds of places in the Castro, the Mission and Noe Valley neighborhoods. If you want to walk a few blocks, check out Novy in Noe Valley or Flour+Water, Souvla or Lazy Bear in the Mission.

City info

Don’t forget that the famous Mission Dolores Park is a block away from my flat. Bring your sunscreen and a beach towel and relax in the southwest corner of the park for the best views of the East Bay and downtown SF. Also, if you love city hikes, my favorite is to start at Duboce Park, then trek up to Buena Vista park where you’ll find peek-a-boo views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Then make your way to Corona Heights Park where you will see a full view from Alcatraz almost to SFO. Then you can hike down into the heart of the Castro neighborhood at 18 and Castro Streets. This adventure will occupy approximately 1-2 hours of your time. There, you’ll find yourself just a couple blocks back to my flat. If you have time, a bike ride through Golden Gate Park will prove to be a worthy adventure. There you’ll find the deYoung Museum, the California Academy of Sciences, the Conservatory of Flowers, paddocks of bison and bike trails leading all the way to the ocean. You can do Golden Gate Park in a few hours or you could spend all day in the park. One last adventure you may want to consider is the Embarcadero. You’ll find world class restaurants and miles of bayside running/bike lanes with immediate views of all the great architecture downtown has to offer, including the Ferry Building and the stately Salesforce Tower, the tallest building in the city. You’ll also find Chinatown just a couple blocks from the Embarcadero as well as famed Union Square with world class shopping and the Fisherman’s Wharf. The most exciting way to get to the Embarcadero from the Castro is to catch the trolley/street car at 17 and Castro Streets and ride it all down Market Street to the water.
