Beaches
So many to choose from!
Westport is one of several beautiful beaches within easy driving distance. 3 miles of sandy beach and dunes stretch all the way along to Machrihanish bay. Great surfing but take care if swimming, there are rip tides. Other beaches nearby include A’chleit, 2 miles north of Glenbarr which has amazing rock formations and is perfect for swimming and paddle boarding. Killagruer beach is another lovely sandy beach around a miles walk from the village (public access through the caravan site).

Gigha Island
Gigha is a stunning small island just a 20 minute ferry ride from Tayinloan (5 miles north of Glenbarr). Brilliant for a family day out, you can hire bikes and take a tour of the stunning Achamore gardens, followed by some amazing food at the beachfront restaurant. Absolutely one of my favourite days out!

Newly re-opened, muasdale stores stocks all kinds of fun things, from colouring pens to Prosecco. They also do fresh coffee, soup and a selection of rolls and bakery to takeaway. Great if you’re going for a wander down the beach and need a snack!

Sightseeing
Featuring Anthony Gormley’s sculpture of a figure gazing out to sea, Saddell Bay is home to historic Saddell Castle, as well as being the place the video for Paul McCartneys Mull of Kintyre was filmed! Stunning views of Arran and calm seas for a paddle.

Take the long and winding road to the Mull of Kintyre itself and enjoy breathtaking views and wildlife. You might even spot the local nesting ospreys. The more energetic may want to take a walk down the steep hill to the lighthouse itself, but remember you have to walk back up again! Then pop in to Muneroy Tearooms at Southend to enjoy a well deserved piece of homemade cake, and take a walk to the old lifeboat station along Dunaverty beach.

Take the path through the gap in the stone wall just down from the shop on the left hand side of the road. You can cross the river at the stepping stones when the the river is low, but please avoid the wooden bridge to the south of the abbey itself. Dogs are allowed, but be aware there are deer in the woods.

Recently restored to it's former glory, with all modern facilities, the Picture House is a brilliant example of community effort. Hosting not only the latest blockbusters, but a comedy festival, theatre and special events, and with it's own cafe, a visit here is an absolute treat.

Aquilibrium has a great pool with fantastic views, and as the floor of the pool can be raised it's perfect for small children. Check with the centre for opening times.
There is also a well equiped gym and a library in the building.
