Sightseeing

Montezuma is a short drive around the peninsula and perhaps best known for it's waterfalls. The Riverbed Trail: Note: This is the easiest way to get to the lower waterfall, which is the biggest cascade. Getting to the other two from this direction is a hard hike up very steep stairs. From downtown Montezuma, walk or drive about 0.3 miles (0.5 km) south to the small bridge that crosses the Rio Montezuma. Just after the bridge there is a trail and parking area on the right. The trail is dirt at first but soon enters the rocky riverbed. Some of the rocks are also very slippery so be sure to bring footwear with good tread that you don’t mind getting wet. After hiking for about 20 minutes, you will reach the lower waterfall and pool. To access the two upper waterfalls from the riverbed, look for a rustic set of stairs (about 300 stairs total) before the lower waterfall on your left. Canopy Tour Trail: Note: This is the easiest way to access the two upper waterfalls. Getting to the lower waterfall from this direction requires a very steep set of stairs. Drive south from downtown Montezuma about 0.4 miles (0.6 km), cross the bridge, and take a right after Hotel Amor del Mar. Go up the steep hill until you reach Sun Trails Canopy on your right. Pay the fee for the self-guided hike. There are lots of rustic steps and roots along this trail but it is only a moderate hike. From the top waterfall, you can swim across the pool to see the middle waterfall. If you want to see the lower waterfall from this direction, you will have to make a steep climb (almost 300 steps each way) or access the lower waterfall on a separate occasion using the Riverbed Trail.

Cabo Blanco holds a special place in the history of Costa Rica. It was the country’s first area that was protected for nature conservation, and the first National Park created in Costa Rica in 1963. Cabo Blanco was originally established as an "Absolute Nature Reserve" whose access was restricted to scientists and park rangers. Today visitors are allowed to hike through the reserve on two designated trails: the "Sueco" and the "Danes Trail". You can increase your chances of seeing animals if you move slowly and silently through the trails, or sit quietly at a riverside. In dry season the visibility through the thickets is better, as many trees and shrubs shed their leaves. At the entrance to the nature reserve you find a booth with information about the wildlife and history of Cabo Blanco. The rangers at the station are very helpful in answering questions and there is also a tap for filling up water bottles.

Daily daily dive outings for certified divers are approximately 4 hours long and include two dives, any gear you might need and a simple snack on the boat. Sharks, morays, lobsters, sting rays, crabs, and schools of colorful fish are all creatures we see on a daily basis, and in addition we have two distinct seasons for very special visitors: the oceanic manta ray (January-April) and the humpback whales (August-September). +506 8438 5887
