This historic bridge gets decorated by local neighbors twice a year for Independence Day and Christmas. Enjoy the views up and down the Finley River as you cross. Because it is a very narrow single line, approach the bridge slowly to look for traffic before beginning across.

A little rough around the edges, this is the local go-to for rafting, canoe rentals, etc. Make a reservation based on your group size to rent rafts and canoes. Parking is limited at their office, but there is overflow across the street at the boat launch. They will provide life jackets and a trash bag to keep the water clean. They will drive you and your equipment out to the launch point and you will float right back to them at the end, easy peasy!

"Fantastic Caverns is America's Ride-Thru Cave! It was discovered in 1862 by an Ozarks farmer - or more precisely, by his dog, who crawled through a small entrance in a hillside. It wasn't until five years later that the first exploration took place: twelve women from Springfield, answering a newspaper ad seeking explorers, ventured into the cave. Their names remain on a cave wall today.
Because the beauty of Fantastic Caverns is vulnerable, the cave is toured in Jeep-drawn trams. Since you ride all of the way through, you experience the magnitude, the stillness, and the splendor of Fantastic Caverns while preserving its natural features. Wise stewardship is integral. Preservation efforts ensure the cave will be available for future generations to explore.
Fantastic Caverns, just northwest of Springfield, Missouri, is one of more than 7,300 documented caves that dot the Missouri landscape, and more are still being discovered. It’s no wonder Missouri is known as “The Cave State.”

I was able to visit on a surreal autumn evening as the sun was seeing and being at the junction of old meets new. Rolling through in a 2021 Wrangler rental car with 3 original miles when I picked it up. Taking it right into the heart of our nation's history on our first day together.
