After the earthquake of 1895, the city was rebuilt in the style of the period, Viennese secession. I like the Grand Hotel Union (1905) and Vurnik's Bank (1922) in particular.

Designed by Plecnik in 1937. It is a great trip by bike over the marshy swampland plain, now a nature resort. You can continue the ride to the lake Jezero pri Podpeči.
