It was founded 49 years ago by Austrian Alpine skier Josl Huter.
The resort is located just north of Barrie in the snow belt region
of Ontario. Today, it contains 36 slopes, 9 chairlifts and 3 carpets. The resort is known for being family friendly and prides itself on accommodating the beginner skier to the most advanced skier.

Hardwood Ski and Bike has kilometers of beautiful, rolling trails through hardwood and pine forests for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking and trail running/hiking. The ski trail network consists of 8 different loops ranging from 3 km to 22 km. There is a trail for every level of ability, from beginner to elite racer on terrain that ranges from gently rolling to challenging. Hardwood grooms all of the trails for both Classic and Skate skiing, using the new, state of the art grooming equipment. In summer, we have 34 km of rolling double track trails and an additional 50 km of challenging single track trails that intertwine with the ski trail network creating endless possibilities of courses and obstacles. With learning in mind, Hardwood Ski and Bike wants to make outdoor sports accessible to anyone from 3 – 100 years of age. There are lessons and programs in place for everyone from beginners to elite athletes in both summer and winter. A wide variety of activities are offered, so that the whole family can have an awesome day outdoors at our facility. Hardwood has a full Service and Repair center for all your rental, waxing, grinding, tune-up and repair needs. Our Retail Shop is equipped with both skiing and riding gear and specialized accessories to cover all your needs.

Sprawling across an area of 518 acres, this forest area boasts of natural goodness being belted as Environmentally Protected (EP). You can hike and walk here, as well as get your dog here, but they must be leashed. The region is also popular for its single-track packing. Indeed, a delight for any outdoor fanatic.

Peter learned the craft of cider making at Peter Mitchell’s Cider Academy at Cornell University which led to the planting of over 15,000 grapevines and 1250 fruit trees. Peter’s family first settled in the area in the 1850’s so it is no surprise that Heritage Estate features a century farmhouse in addition to over 20 acres of sprawling heirloom grapevines.
