Your search for the city's best burrito can start and finish at this local's favorite. La Taqueria omits rice from their burritos allowing the tender meat and beans to shine. Order with avocado and get a large agua fresca, too!

The best bakery in San Francisco-- few places excell at both bread and pastry but everything they produce is tip-top! You can buy half loaves in case you don't need a full loaf of bread. Their Indian Chicken Sandwich on homemade baguette is a personal fave. If you have kids, enjoy in the playground across the street.

No doubt, if you are into food, you have heard about the the Ferry Building Farmers Market and it's outstanding. The biggest day is Saturdays but there is also a good selection of local produce purveyors and prepared foods on Tuesdays and Thursdays is mostly prepared foods. It's still worth a visit outside market hours to see the Ferry Building and it's collection of quality, local, San Francisco stores and makers.

Another outstanding bakery. This is a bit removed from most tourist's explores of SF but stock up on excellent pastry (you'll want more than one- I never skip the passionfruit curd brioche or the Everything croissant) and walk over to the newly opened Crave Cove Park for some post-industrial urban reuse. Continue walking north on 3rd or 4th Streets to explore the UCSF campus.

Sightseeing

One of my favorite spots in SF as it's definitely not something you'll find in other cities. Climb up Greenwich, walk around or visit Coit Tower and descend the Filbert St side (or continue west, down into North Beach)- each approach is distinct.

I love to walk the Embarcadero from the Ferry Building to the base of the Greenwich or Filbert St stairs (or continue on to Pier 39). Even if you don't want to go into the museum, there are a number of interactive exhibits and experiences outside the building- The Fog Bridge which in non-drought, non-Covid times goes off once an hour, is a favorite.
