Sightseeing

Abergavenny is a favourite of mine, its approach is just stunning nestled between seven mountains. Its only a 30 mins drive away and has a lovely up market feel to it. It is a very popular tourist attraction with plenty of parking. Great shops, cafes, restaurants and is very well known for its bustling markets on Tues/Weds/Thurs/Fri. The Blorenge mountains nearby are also popular with paragliding clubs so often you will see a great display of paragliders overhead.

Fabulous city for shopping, food and nightlife. The scenic train from LLanhilleth to Cardiff city central takes approx 45 mins and costs for an "anytime day return" £7.70 Tip ... You can walk down to the station (15mins) but its a steep walk back up! The train station carpark is free all day so this may be a better option!

I love Gotyre Wharf it is just peaceful and beautiful, a great place to come for lunch or afternoon tea. The canal just curves it’s way around the hillsides with stunning scenery both sides of the canal path. We have cycled the 6 mile route from Pontypool to Goytre- it has to be the most beautiful stretch of canal I’ve ever seen . Also popular with walkers and of course the best day out has to be hiring a barge for the day.

Food scene

This place is a fabulous stop off if you are arriving early and looking for somewhere to spend a few hours before Check in! It’s just a slight 10 minute detour off the main road if you’re travelling via the Pontypool route! Perfect for a food stop or some outdoor fun, this place is beautifully tranquil yet also has a hive of activity’s on the water to enjoy participating or just spectate! I highly recommend this place, the cafe is superb , very modern and has cakes to die for! The views are fabulous. This is also a good place to walk as there is a lovely circular walk around the reservoir. It also has a very dodgy crazy golf course , which is a bit uneven to say the least !!

Just the best walk , it’s beautiful and fun. The main loop is flattish but then you have to descend a lot of steps to each waterfall. Some scrambling up rocks if you fancy taking the riskier routes ! Advisable to wear good footwear and a waterproof as slippery when you get near the water and wet when walking under the main falls !
