Don't let the name fool you...John and Katina serve way more than baked yummy treats. Delicious soups, sandwiches, quiches....a lot of them with Katina's signature Mediterranean flair. When the other lunch places are busy and crowded, walk down the street and into the bakery for a delicious, relaxing lunch. And, on Fridays, the Blue Ridge Boys entertain locals in the bakery with their own mix of Appalachian music!

Fun things for young and old
Best toy store I have ever seen--three floors of toys, games, stuffed animals, legos, and more. Has a lot of retro toys many of us played with as kids, and the prices are comparable to big box stores and online. John Taylor lives here and built this business himself. You must visit it! There is even a model car racetrack set up that customers can play with for as long as they want.

Only 30 minutes from Brevard is the entrance to one of the best parks in the Southeast. Gorges State Park is set in the midst of plunging waterfalls, rugged river gorges, sheer rock walls and a high concentration of rare species, and exploration of this unique environment often begins at the expansive visitor center with its museum-quality exhibits, augmented by picnic grounds and shelters. Backcountry-style recreation is a hallmark of Gorges with distance hiking, backpack camping, trout fishing, mountain biking and horseback riding welcome in various parts of the rugged interior. The 7,500-acre park incorporates a portion the long-distance Foothills Trail and touches Lake Jocassee at the South Carolina border. Trails and campsites continue to be developed at this relatively new state park.

Josh Chambers opened his brewery with a love for outdoors. In fact, he is located right at the entrance of Pisgah National Forest! They don’t just play outdoors, they live outdoors—crafting beer for adventure along the way. By definition, “Ecusta” means, “Get Distant.” No two words better represent our beer. Ecusta Brewing is the starting point for those seeking adventure, and the final destination for those who sought it. They also normally have food trucks for the evening, and you can sit outside with your furry friend and enjoy a beer or two and the food truck culinary delights! North Carolina Waterfalls by Kevin Adams

This book is a must read, and actually, a book you must check out of the library to bring with you. Easy to use, Adams gives accurate descriptions, directions, and hiking difficulty for over 250 of the best waterfalls (a large portion are in western North Carolina). We have a copy here that you can borrow.
Yanınızda getirmeniz gerekenler

Dress in layers, clean socks, shoes that can get wet.

Temperatures vary by as much as 40 degrees during the spring and fall, and it can be a lot cooler when you are hiking and up on the parkway. If the canopy (trees) is complete, hiking can get a lot cooler than if you are in town. Lots of rocks, roots, and creeks to cross, so a good hiking stick is essential, as is a light pack with water bottle and some snacks.

Good shoes for walking in creeks

The creeks and in fact, the rocks on the trails are very slippery and often covered in algae and moss; this area is a temperate rain forest, so you will be hiking in mud, water, etc. Do not be fooled by slow moving streams or shallow creek crossings--one false step and you will be on your butt.

Horseback trail rides

FYI if you are interested in a horseback trail ride, there's an awesome local farm here who does them. Rusty Spur trail rides, @rustyspurtrailrides on Facebook, email rustyspurtrailrides@yahoo.com, phone 828-553-0407. They do 1 hr, 2.5 hr and 4 hour rides through the forest, around waterfalls, etc. Tim and Lakin Jones are the owners.
