Tekapo is only a 30 minute drive on the Mount Cook road.
Spectacular views of the lake, great walks and good food.
I love the walk from the hot pools to the Observatory.
Round Hill has a great ski field where you can hire ski gear there or in Fairlie at the Ski Shack

Lovely little town with good eating and shopping.
A couple of walks which are worth while is Little Mount Peel (afternoon walk) and Big Mount Peel ( full day )
