In the warm weather, you can paddle there. Less than a mile from the cottage. Historic (check out the original liquor license over the bar), good food, friendly service. The owner, Tory, has been there for years. Worth a visit - really close to home.

A bit of a hike, but a full-fledged health food store. It has a nice bulk section, a nice coffee selection, produce, lots of refrigeration and - very good prices - often lower than the bigger chain stores.

Definitely a drive - although a pleasant one. Pine Bush is a quirky little place and of particular mention is this little family-run restaurant that makes amazing Asian food from plants.
The squash soup is incredible.

It’s not far from the New Windsor encampment, where the American troops stayed after the war it’s also close to the Newburgh waterfront, and the Newburgh Brewing Company There are also some shops and restaurants with an easy walking distance.

See where the Continental soldiers spent their last winter. Most of the buildings have been torn down, but there are a few left and there’s something really cool about walking on the same ground they did.

Orange Lake
There is nothing like this fire tower for an amazing view of the Hudson River and Valley. During the Summer months, you can drive to within 75 paces of the tower - so no big hike required - although there are some nice trails here too.

This park has plenty to offer everyone. It’s really quite large, so you have to walk around to see everything. On the west side it has tennis courts, a huge frisbee field, to the east it has a great playground for kids, a picnic shelter, a beautiful walk through the woods, and around the creek which runs through the park. There are two dog runs and a baseball field.
There is a beautiful waterfall if you follow the walking paths south east of the picnic shelter.

Beautiful 18 hole executive course. Rated one of the best executive golf courses in the United States. Beautifully laid out, has a nice restaurant too.

Maybe my favorite nine hole golf course in the world. It’s a nice mix of long and short, incredible views, well-maintained, usually not crowded, super reasonable fees. 
The original design had the second hole as the first hole and the first hole as the ninth hole. So the first hole has a brutal back to front green that will challenge your putting right away. And the second hole is the perfect warm-up , which is usually offered by humane golf course architects. It’s a nice left to right that will funnel short shots down near if not on the fairway.

This is the closest golf course to the property - a 15 minute drive.
Super reasonable fees, nice practice area, including a range and putting green. This is a full length 9 hole course.  Nice design for walking, fairly level.  Definitely challenging if you want to shoot a low score. It will tempt you to make bad shots with its strategically placed hazards.

This is the closest golf course to the property - a 15 minute drive.
Super reasonable fees, nice practice area, including a range and putting green. This is a full length 9 hole course.  Nice design for walking, fairly level.  Definitely challenging if you want to shoot a low score. It will tempt you to make bad shots with its strategically placed hazards.
Strange little perfectly flat course that features 12 holes, yes 12. It’s about a 20 minute drive on route 84, has a nice practice area with grass tees or mats, putting green, and a chipping area. The back three is very challenging.
Perfect for walking.
