Known to locals as the Civic Center. Parking and travel to this venue can be challenging, so make sure you arrive earlier than later, or you may miss part of your event, if a high school graduation, a convention, or the circus.

Darlington SC is the home of the historic Southern 500. There are on average two stock car races per year. The drivers, sponsors and the race names change, but the deafening roar will always leave your ears ringing. Its not for everyone, but there are many die-hard fans. Darlington is located about 15 miles from my place, and takes about 20 minutes to drive on NON-race days.

The SiMT building is located off of Hwy 52/Lucas St., past the Farmers Market and behind Florence Darlington Technical College. It has been THE venue for many functions in the last few years. Turn off of Hwy 52 at the big fountain/reflection pool at FDTC and wind back about 1 mile (and over many speed bumps) to arrive at the SiMT building for your function.

The Pumpkin Church: Along with having a first rate kindergarten program and being a wonderful United Methodist Church, every year in Autumn the youth of the church sell pumpkins to fund mission work. Older locals call it the "Old Mall", because it was "THE Mall" for many years before The Magnolia Mall became "The Mall". It is located at a junction of West Evans St., David McLeod Blvd, and West Palmetto St. It boasts many stores both attached to it and in its parking lot: Starbucks, 5 Guys, Moe's Southwestern Grill, Cold Stone Creamery, Redbone Alley, Wells Fargo Bank, CiCi's Pizza (buffet and special order), Game Stop, Zoe's, UPS Store, and many more!

Flights in and out of Florence

Florence has a small airport with daily flights to Charlotte, NC and other various destinations. The next closest airports are Myrtle Beach (1.5 hours drive), Columbia (1.45 hours drive), and Charlotte (2.5 hours drive). Due to recent incidents, it is suggested that you NOT park/leave your vehicle in the on-site parking lot. It would be best to have someone drop you off/pick you up, unless you rent a car there and return it there. Daylight hours are best for using the parking lots. Do not leave anything visible in your car that may be perceived to be valuable. Inside the airport is quiet, uncrowded, and uneventful. I fly, but will not leave my car parked there anymore.
