Sightseeing

The Church of the Intercession at Fili (Russian: Це́рковь Покрова́ в Филя́х) is a Naryshkin baroque church commissioned by the boyar Lev Naryshkin in his suburban estate Fili. The existing church replaced a 1619 wooden church established by Mikhail Romanov, consecrated in the name of the Intercession of the Virgin to commemorate the victory over Polish troops on that day in 1618. In 1689, Fili village was acquired by Lev Naryshkin, brother of Natalia Naryshkina and uncle of Peter I. Naryshkin's two brothers were murdered during the Moscow Uprising of 1682; it is believed that Natalia saved Lev from the same fate and that Lev Naryshkin vowed to dedicate the church to his late brothers.

A legendary huge marketplace for dealing in music, cinema, video games, vinyls, electronics and household equipment. It became the legend in 90-s, as it used to be the place where you could find a pirate copy of literally ANYTHING and for a cheap price. Now the trade is legal, but they say you can still find some copies as a bargain. If you go there you can negotiate the price.

Situated on top of the Mayakovsky Theater, it is known for attracting the Moscow intelligentsia: you can often meet there journalists, actors and writers. It has a very simple decor with an old piano and antique pieces of furniture bringing you back to bohemian Moscow of the early XX century. It's the type of place where 'just a quiet' drink can go on for hours and include numerous vodka shots and the occasional sing-along. Tables are filled almost every night, but waiters will try to squeeze you in. Sometimes there is live music, but usually no background music only chatter. Confusingly the entrance to the toilets is hidden in a cupboard.
