Get ready for waiting for a table, but definitely worth the wait. This charming husband & wife run Wine Bar is the most famous place in town, and you cannot leave without dropping by here. They serve only charcuterie boards of mixed Sardinian hams & cheeses, along with Sardinian only wines. For vegetarians, you can definitely ask to just enjoy a cheese platter and they do have some (very few,but some!) veg-based hor d'oerves. Definitely not ok for vegans though. Please let Gianni or his wife Maria Giovanna know I sent you, hopefully they won't let you wait long for a table

UPDATE JUNE 2020 | The review below belongs to the old(er) management. Currently under new management which I have not personally visited/tried it since. Literally a glass box on the water, with some outdoor tables as well. Same owners as above Nautilus. Hopefully Chef Emiliano is there on your visit. Personal fun fact: had my very small wedding lunch here on Valentine's Day, so definitely gets my vote!

While most of the retaurants along the medieval bastions (old city walls on the water) are mediocre tourist traps, ANGEDRAS is definitely not and certainly values its own flair and distinct culinary reputation. I personally wouldn't eat anywhere else on the medieval walk. Even if it may be on the earlier side, try booking a table around sunset. Always ask if Marco is working when you go (the owner and the best man at our wedding). If you reserve pls do so by contacting Marco directly on WhatsApp +393404786283, and drop my name. You can hold you rez if you arrive before 8PM if not, wait list after 9:30PM.

Run by the Chef Cristiano Andreini mentioned before in the MOS description. This is now his new restaurant (one of them), but not to be mistaken with the Michelin Starred one they used to own that unfortunately is no longer.

Yes, Alghero is on the water and mostly known for its fresh seafood. However, a signature Sardinian dish is its PORCETTO (pork) and this is my only trustworthy place to try it. Not the most vegetarian friendly unfortunately. Ask for Giggi or Vittoria and please let them know I sent you :)

Beach Life

"White beaches kissed by a sea with shades of silver, turquoise, blue and topaz. Sandy coves, cliffs, islands. Many of the legends about Sardinia’s splendour come from here, from the enchanting northwestern side of the island. The northwest coast of Sardinia has its own scent, that of the sea combined with the rocks, of clumps of myrtle shaken by the wind, rock rose and strawberry tree, that you find in the area’s exquisite honey. On this coast the sea is king, with its colours it licks the white beaches and offers up its prized fish to embellish the tables." Text via Sardegna Turismo
Right on the Rocks, and the only "Beach" for Lounging, Sipping & Surfing in the Historic City Center. The only Beach/Lounge/NightClub located in the Center of Alghero. On the rocks, no sand. But definitely worth spending at least one day there even just for the vibe and atmosphere, and definitely the sunset! Open from the morning at breakfast, you find Sun Loungers and Umbrellas for half or full day with shower and toilet facilities included. Bar always open with table service. At lunch, kitchen offers delicious sandwiches, a varied mix of salads and still wraps, sandwiches and a sweet menù always full of novelties and flavors. At the aperitif time, fantastic drinks, appetizers and charicuterie boards surround a unique sunset, on the water, looking towards Capo Caccia. From 10pm to 2am the Riservato turns into a full-fledged Night Club.

Past the Lido Beaches and Boarwalk, you'll reach a thick area covered by tall pine trees. On the other side of these pine trees are lovely beaches. The water is even more beautiful than the Lido beach since its protected by dunes. Maria Pia is backed by beautiful dunes and a cooling pine forest that can give you some shade during the hottest hours of the day. The water is really beautiful and clear, the sand is clean and white, without too many rocks. The waters at Maria Pia are shallow at first and get deeper gradually. Here you will also find free beaches, as well as sun loungers & umbrella rentals. Also kiosks for food & beverages. Walking is possible of course, just 10 mins further than the Lido beaches. Bikes would make it much faster to get to, but walking is fine too.

Le Bombarde beach is located in the north of Alghero in the direction of Porto Conte. White and fine sand, the sea in this stretch is turquoise with transparent water. A little less than 1 km long is generally very crowded especially at weekends. Services: Parking for a fee, sun loungers, parasols, pedal boats, etc. Possibility of scuba diving and sailing lessons. There are kiosks, bars and restaurants. During the summer season the beach bus service is active. Biking is an option, but get ready for some uphill and dirt roads.

Lazzaretto beach is located north-west of Alghero, near the village of Fertilia and close to Spiaggia delle Bombarde with beautiful views of Alghero in the distance and Torre del Lazzaretto to the right – an ancient tower that was built with local limestone around 1580. The beach has a wide range of services and facilities. If you’re on holiday in the Alghero area, this beach shouldn’t be missed. Biking is an option, but get ready for some uphill and dirt roads.

Personally, one of my favorite little corners of Alghero seas. Plan to get there early to avoid the crowds and enjoy this gem on your own with few people. Then maybe plan it with a trip to the Grotte of Nettuno, you can catch a boat that takes you there directly from the dock.

Photos do not even do this place justice. Popular among the Alghero locals, this spot is one of the lesser known must-see beaches to visit. The main – and widest – part of Mugoni beach is about 1.5 kilometers long, though the beach continues for a few hundred meters at its outskirts. Almost completely sheltered by thick and cooling pine tree forests, Spiaggia di Mugoni faces south and offers extraordinary views of the headlands of Parco Naturale Regionale di Porto Conte and the mountainous region near the village of Tramariglio. With crystal clear waters, fine golden sands, plenty of pretty pine forests, and stunning views reminiscent of sceneries one typically finds in Thailand, Mugoni beach could very well become your favorite beach near Alghero. If you can, do stay until sunset and be mesmerized. This beach is well equipped: sun loungers and parasols are available for rent. Definitely quite far for a bike ride. I would consider the beach bus or a taxi for sure. Make sure you have the taxi number for your return ride!

40mins drive away from Alghero, and you feel like you're in the Maldives. Definitely ALWAYS crowded but worth it. No matter what you do, what time you go, from May - Augusut it will be crowded. But if you want to feel like you're on a beach in Polinesia or Turks & Caicos, then go. All you have to do is google it and see for yourself, absolutely stunning :) My apartment has an extra pair of mats you can borrow for the obligatory lounging in La Pelosa Beach (to preserve the powder white sand from the shore).

One of the newest hotspots of Alghero, opened recently last year (2019) by a lovely mix of Italians with Sardinian and non-Sardinian heritage. The wine list is the most extensive and valuable selection of world varieties, which is always refreshing if you're looking (or missing) something different than the usual traditional staples found all over the city. Located on the iconic Medieval Bastions of Alghero, right on the water, and with an uninterrupted view of Capocacia and thus THE BEST VIEWS FOR SUNSET that Alghero is definitely famous for. Thanks to the owners vivid and masterful sense of hospitality, you can grab a stool at an outdoor bar table or also drop your name on the list, grab a glass and sit on the walls or their lovely Alice in Wonderland style seating of white tables, chairs, and exquisite lanterns while waiting for a table. Without a doubt, this place has caught my attention since it opened with its style, mannerisms, and bold character and has easily won me over instantly as one of my new favorite spots in Alghero. Oh, last but not least, divine music selection as the perfect pairing for the background ambiance. Do not miss it or you'll definitely be missing out ;)

The Apartment's Street & Neighborhood

The Wanderlust Apartment is located in the artsy side of the old town. A reflection of Saint Paul de Vence in France, with proper stones along the path, old vaulted gutters for water and rain, picturesque doorways of traditional buildings and storefronts. One of the best preserved street of the historic city center of Alghero within the Medieval Bastion Walls. Entirely pedestrian (except a couple of hours of transit for local residents and boutiques) and forbidden to EVER park on. For more artisanal design, three lovely gallery/boutiques right on Via Minerva under the apartment. More on each one described individually.

Food On-the-Go for Take-Away Options

A lovely Florentine guest of mine recently asked me for my suggestions for bakeries, more specifically PASTICCERIE as referred to in Italian, for getting take-away pastries in order to enjoy breakfast on my private rooftop terrace during their stay.... So I created this section for that purpose, as I think it's a lovely idea and would love to share these locations with my guests for their intimate breakfasts on the terrace, and since I created it I added some snack options for other take-away moments of the days as well.
Street Food at its best for something quick, easy, simple, inexpensive yet extraordinarily delicious. A long list of wraps for all flavors and foodies, with gluten-free and vegan-approved options as well. Always remember to check out their daily specials with their constantly creative updates (which you can do easily since its literally across the street from the main entrance of my apartment!) and if you fall inlove with these wraps the way I did (and everyone else I know) remember to get their stamp card so you can collect your wraps and get one free with their friendly fidelity program. Always a go-to when you wanna grab something on-the-go and not have to wait for it to get cold by just bringing it home across the street and/or enjoying it from my private rooftop terrace! :)

A newbie in town (circa 2019) but right in the heart of Piazza Civica, one of the largest and most vibrant squares of the historic City Center of Alghero and comfortably a 3minute walk from the apartment. Shabby chic in style but purely Sardinian in tradition for its array of 'dolci' pastries. Lovely hospitality that explains the different sweets to their guests with care and affection towards their heritage. A must visit to enjoy!

Another newbie since 2019, and a pure gem when it comes to Sardinian Specialty Stores. The city is studded with them, all over the place so one definitely wonders how to differentiate one from another.... While many have been around forever and not really into the concept of updating their inventory or ambiance, I am a huge fan of young people that love their heritage and promote it as an artisan mastery, honoring traditions but also knowing how to place it in current times. Most other Sardinian specialty stores in Alghero feel like cookie cutter tourist traps (even if they might not be!), while Terra Mea feels fresh and bold, and totally traditional yet up to date. From charcuterie options, to made in the moment Sardinian wraps and sandwiches with the freshest local cheeses and fillings ever (perfect to grab as a snack to bring to the beach by the way!). An array of snacks and keepsakes are also available to bring back home with you (ex: honey, wine, etc). This place has become part of my weekly grocery stop for my own family.
