Food Scene

Emu Point Cafe is an amazing place to grab a coffee, cake, or to have brunch on a Sunday morning. Its over looks a beautiful bay which is enclosed and great for a safe and peaceful swim. In the summers you can enrol your children in swimming, and for me this has fond memories as I did this in my summers as a child.

Vancouver Cafe is a 10 minute walk from our residence and there you will find amazing breakfasts in a historic building. Great coffee is also provided along with very welcoming staff. I would always recommend my favourite: bacon and eggs.

This main strip cafe has some of Albany's best coffee. It also does a great BLT that I would recommend. Walk a leisurely 10 minutes and you will be at a great lunch spot.

Named after musical legend Bob Dylan, this is one of my families favourite places to get dinner. They are a family run business that have been in Albany forever. Located near the harbour, it is also close to walk to the Anzac Peace Park once you have finished your meal. I would definitely recommend the Dylans Burger.

Drinks & Nightlife

Three Anchors is a great place to go and have a drink and listen to music. It also is in a great location, close to the beach and would make for watching a lovely sunset. If you wanted you could drive along Marine Drive and then end up at Three Anchors for your preferred drink. Depending on the season you may be able to see a whale!!!!

Whilst in Albany you should make sure you get to see Torndirrup National Park. This is where the famous Gap and National Bridge are located. Recently there has been a upgrade of the facilities surrounding the gap and natural bridge, and includes a viewing platform and small walk including plaques that state facts about the environments beautiful creations. Be sure to be safe at all times if you visit. The gap is a natural whales spouting hole and with large whales and strong weather has the ability to spray and spurt water up through a rocky pipe.

Emu Point is another beautiful beach that provides a more sheltered swim in the bay. It is also a great place to have brunch or afternoon tea, with a lovely café “Emu Point café”. Also for the people looking to have a seaside dinner, the Squid Shack does amazing fish and chips and is located in Emu Point near the boating docks.

If you continue along Marine Drive you will arrive at Middleton Beach, home to Albany’s boardwalk. This board walk stretches along the coast and can be used to spot whales and seals. In addition the boardwalk also has several pit stops of important ANZAC locations, including statues shipped from Gallipoli to Australia after the end of WWI. This is a great historical walk, as it includes several spots to read facts about Albany, its flora and fauna, and its rich whaling and war history.

Sightseeing

Anzac Memorial On top of Mount Clarence you can find Albany’s beautiful ANZAC Memorial. This is one of many spots in Albany that is dedicated to celebrating the life of ANZAC soldiers, particularly those in WWI. For many of these young men who lost their lives during this First World War, Albany was the last of Australia to be seen as the ships left this last port. On Mount Clarence you can find a Horse Memorial on the very top of this mountain, as well as the Albany Forts that also include a museum of WWI artefacts. Today some more dangerous forts have been closed, however there are still some that can be walked through. To get to this Mount Clarence Memorial you can take a scenic drive along Marine Drive, which over looks King George Sound.
