Food scene

This barn-like place has wood floors and is spacious and comfortable. It has a kind of coffee bar in the front and the poured coffee (both decaf and regular) is good. The ridgetop cafe is owned by cattlewomen, who are also often present and sometimes even wait the tables. They own a ranch close by, and needless to say all the beef served at the restaurant is from their own ranch. I like the breakfasts there. They also have their version of eggs benedict which they serve on weekends. They also serve lunch, with several good things, including burgers (they "brand" the buns). My favorites are: their breakfast burritos (served with homemade salsa) and their (extremely yummy) ground beef quesadillas, which feature really well seasoned ground beef inside, and a great sauce drizzled over (gluten-free too, and non-greasy, as the corn tortillas are not really fried). They give you the option of having avocado inside (they are good both with and without the avocado). Not your typical quesadillas, mind you, more like gourmet ones (can you tell I like their quesadilla?) The cattlewomen also recently started Wednesday night dinners (the only day they are open for dinner) which seem really popular. I haven't been yet, but want to and will update this review after I do dinner there. The dinners start at 4 pm. They say reservations are recommended (call them). The other thing to know is that they sell cuts of beef as well as beef jerky from their cattle at their restaurant.

This place is very conveniently located just next door to the Beauregard! This is a super casual place: there is a window where you order your food: it's good for take-out, or you can eat on the outside picnic tables in good weather, or indoors which has a counter with 3 stools. This place is a local favorite and has been voted "best burger of Humboldt county" for a reason: the burgers are made from Humboldt grass-fed beef and are addictive (for me, anyway, which is not great news for my waistline, but man, are they good). This place is of course, mainly for burger lovers. My favorite is the cajun bacon cheese burger (single or double) with everything on it. The fries are also good. Try the "fry sauce" (yum) which is free: you have to ask for it when you pick up your order. They always have a $20 special which includes tax: a double cheese burger with a large fries and a milkshake. Try the milkshakes, if you like shakes. I tried the black raspberry one and it was de-lish!

Truly cheesy pizza, if you love cheese , I recommend it! My nephew highly recommends their sandwiches. They make the hot, toasted, cheesy, melty kind. I have yet to try their sandwiches, though since I love that kind of sandwich, I can't wait to.

There is a guest book binder on the coffee room table

The Beauregard guest book, on the coffee table in the living room, details various day trips (drives) of local redwoods and other memorable areas such as the lost coast, and has maps and photos of each trip.
