My recommendations for some eateries and restaurants to try in the south of the island.

The restaurant is commonly known under the name of Marilyn Monroe because the owner's first name is Marilyn and also because she's got several pictures of the famous actress in her restaurant.
The actual name of the restaurant is ' Roche Cari' in reference to a flat stone on which spices are traditionally crushed in Mauritius. You can also enjoy some tasty seafood dishes there.

Refurbished in 2017, the 19th century mansion is set in opulent French gardens dotted with fountains and offers breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains and of the Bel Ombre golf course.
This is a must-visit during your stay in the south - the Macondé viewpoint provides a spectacular view over the winding Macondé road, as well as the wild ocean in the south of the island!

About the location and neighbourhood of Bel Ombre
Bel Ombre, in the south of Mauritius, is the place where the authenticity of the island unfolds. Rich in history from its colonial past, Bel Ombre boasts of vibrant culture and rich biodiversity. Visitors can admire the most beautiful views over unspoilt natural panoramas. Every parcel of this fabulous scenery invites to total immersion.

Kaz'alala is located approximately 50 kms from the capital city of Mauritius - Port-Louis. The best way of getting there is by renting a car and finding paid parking to keep your car while you roam in the well-known Port-Louis market or in the streets of the city.
A bus line also operates from Bel Ombre to Port-Louis along the west coast. While it is a picturesque bus drive, it is also a lengthy one.
Either way you are sure to find some great souvenirs in Port-Louis but be sure to negotiate the prices by half at least :)

What to pack for your trip to Mauritius?
Mauritius is so much more than sea, sun and sand. Being a tropical island with lush nature, and amazing biodiversity, you will want to get and discover the locality.
Below is a non-exhaustive list of items I recommend you pack:
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Mosquito repellent (yes, we are a tropical island!)
- Something warm to wear - some days can get chilly if it rains or there is wind
- A good book to relax on the hammock or swing by the veranda
- Bring your snorkelling mask and sea-shoes if you have them - some amazing underwater life can be admired in the lagoons of the south

Yes, a hearty and local breakfast is included every day during your stay!
Local fruits, pancakes, home-made jams, Mauritian fritters and pastries, delicious fresh bread, omelette and baked beans (Mauritian-style), and locally grown Chamarel Coffee to wake you up... So, you are most welcome to eat your fill before your day out exploring :)

Our all-day restaurant Lakaz Mama
We have a selection of light bites available all day for lunch or for munching in between meals. For light meals, you can enjoy a Smoked Marlin Salad with its Pineapple, Lime & Peanut Dressing or a Fish Vindaye sandwich (with the traditional Pain Maison or a baguette). For something more hearty and if you are ravenous, why not try our Chicken Curry, condiments and warm Farata (Indian flatbread).
