TPSS Co-op is a community-owned grocery store selling local and organic produce. It is just a few minutes walk from the apartment at the intersection of Carroll and Ethan Allen. Leaving the house, you would walk left up Carroll and the co-op will be across the street at the first stoplight at Ethan Allen. We love their bagels. You can stock up on snacks and groceries there, but it’s somewhat pricey. On Thursday evenings during the summer, there is live music and a food truck in the parking lot.

Opal Daniels Park is a small neighborhood park with a playground, fitness course, picnic tables and a grill. There is an unmarked entrance to the park across the street from our home. Cross the road and walk up the hill past three or four houses, the path is on the right next to the bus stop.

There is an unmarked entrance to the park across the street from our home. Cross the road and walk up the hill past three or four houses, the path is on the right next to the bus stop.
Jackson-Boyd playground is a small playground at the corner of Jackson and Boyd, two blocks from the house. Turn left outside the house, turn left again at Boyd and the playground is at the end of that block.

Sligo Creek Trail is located a short walk from the house. There is easy access at the intersection of Jackson and Sligo Creek Parkway. The trail is a 10.2 mile wooded trail along the creek side. On Sundays a section of the parkway is closed to vehicular traffic so it’s a great spot to walk or ride a bike share bicycle.

The trail is a 10.2 mile wooded trail along the creek side. On Sundays a section of the parkway is closed to vehicular traffic so it’s a great spot to walk or ride a bike share bicycle.
Travel and transportation
There is a Capitol Bike Share station located a couple of blocks from our place, outside the Co-op. You can rent a bike for 30 minutes for $2.

The Takoma Metro station is about a 20 minute walk from the house, or there is a bus stop on Carroll near our house for Rideon bus 12 and 13 which will take you straight there. (Tourist tip: stand on the right, pass on the left on Metro escalators).
The Takoma Metro station is on the Red Line. From the Takoma station it takes about 15 minutes to get to Union Station, or you can change lines to reach the Mall at the Metro Center station.
