Sightseeing

The eighth highest dam in the world standing 250 meters high above the valley floor below! This is a definite ‘must visit’ during the summer months in Val de Bagne! Tunnels underneath cascading waterfalls along with breathtaking natural surroundings is enough to spark anyone’s adventurous curiosity. Hidden up not far from the dam, perched upon a small plateau, you’ll find ancient Alpage dry stone buildings riddled with secrets from the past. A sharp eye may catch a glimpse of Capra Ibex on the banks of the Mauvoisin lake as well as Marmots and Chamois. A full lap of the lake takes around 7 hours involving river crossings, lakes, fantastic views, a glacial cemetery and a hut at the very far end. This is a great spot for an afternoon picnic but please take everything back with you leaving no trace behind. Pro tip: why not take a bottle of local white wine and let it cool off in the surrounding waters before enjoying it. Fresh bread, tomatoes, local dried meats and cheese are essential items to pack. Don’t forget the chocolate!
