Thomas Jefferson’s undeniable contributions to America’s founding are in abundance here. Also evident are the honest and striking admissions about slavery as an institution of the era, and the recognition of the enslaved community’s true effort in creating our country.

Only 5 miles away, this vineyard has a great selection and friendly staff. We’ve been to an occasional salsa dance class here! Near the airport, too in case you need a bracer before takeoff!

It is a bit of a drive (35 mins) from here, but lovely tastings and great service. If into history, there is a "ruin" of Gov. Barbour's home which was designed by Jefferson that is worth a stroll and a look. If you go there, you are not far from another Frog Jump favorite, the Gordonsville BBQ. Just sayin.

Find yourself on the Mall in downtown C'ville? Have a few bucks? This is a really lovely restaurant with a great chef. It may be pricey, but we think it is worth a celebration...and believe our foodie friends will think so, too.

Neighborhoods

Great food choices, movies, performance venues, Discovery Museum for kids, and the Free Speech Wall, where you can leave your mark. Summers have street musicians and free concerts on the mall’s west end, under the white pavilion tent.

Hiking Trails

Hiking spots in the area, near our cottage: 1. Ivy Creek Natural Area- 9 miles from here, or an 18 min drive. Also an area known for birding and birdwatching opportunities, it is near the Rivannna Reservoir. Several trails to pick from in increasing complexity. 2. If you are looking for mountain hikes, I hear some guests have hiked Ragged Mountain Natural Area. It is 16 miles from here, or a 29 minute drive. 3. Shenandoah- We are 25 miles away or a 37 min drive to the Rockfish Gap South entrance to the incredible Shenandoah National Park. 4. Trail near Monticello-There is a popular hiking trail near Monticello, Jefferson’s home called the Saunders-Monticello Trail- 21 miles from here or a 28 min drive. I am not a hiker; therefore I do not have firsthand knowledge of these spots, but I have heard glowing reports from guests at Frog Jump. You can find details about the above suggestions online. Hope that gets you started!
