Scone Palace is the crowning place of the great Scottish kings, including Robert the Bruce, and is the original home of the renowned coronation stone, the Stone of Destiny. The palace contains a rare and beautiful collection of furniture gifted by Marie Antoinette, as well as bed-hangings worked on by Mary, Queen of Scots. The surrounding parklands are beautiful, and contain a giant maze, as well as an array of birds and beasts (including white peacocks!) There's a coffee shop with delicious home baking in the Old Servant's Hall, as well as a gift shop. The palace grounds are also a fabulous place to gather a pocketful of conkers in the Autumn- just remember to leave some for me!

Casual dining

Good quality food, made quickly, at a reasonable price, and served in a laid-back atmosphere. Includes recommendations of restaurants suitable for families.
Fine dining it's not, but it's a great stop for a family meal serving European, American, Mexican and Italian fare for brunch, lunch, and dinner, and it's literally a 2 minute walk from the Scandi Loft Apartment. Open from 11.00hrs to midnight, daily.

Another great restaurant for a family meal, serving freshly cooked food from breakfast through to dinner. Lovely home baking too! Open 09.00 to 20.30hrs (and only 5 minutes walk from the Scandi Loft).

A gastropub, only a 3 minute walk from the Scandi Loft, that serves Scottish and British fare (with a highly recommended children's menu). The fish platter is huge (not for the faint hearted!), but absolutely delicious. Open 09.00 to 20.00hrs

Stumble out of bed, down the stairs and next door (well, almost!) to the perfect place for breakfast. It's also great for lunch and coffees, if you're not an early riser! Open 08.30 to 18.00.

A lovely little coffee-house with a very welcoming ambience, which is the perfect spot to grab some me-time and watch the world go by . There's a limited selection of sandwiches, but they're very tasty and nicely presented. There is however a great selection of teas, coffees and delicious home baking, which for me is enough to go back again and again, and just take a breather from a busy day.

Breizh is on the High Street perhaps 50 metres along from the Scandi Loft apartment. They have a very varied menu from tasty galettes (buckwheat pancakes) to salads, steaks and other meat dishes, fish, vegetarian. The ambience is good, they do fabulous crepes for dessert, and they promise me that if you arrive at 9, they won't push you out the door so they can close-up at 9.30!

In the words of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, 'How do I love thee (Hinterland)? Let me count the ways.' I love the way when you walk in the door, no matter how busy they are, no matter the time of day, no matter who is serving, you are greeted with a genuinely warm and welcoming smile. I love that they will then bring you a carafe of water, without you having to ask for one. I love the music, which is always mellow. In fact, when I was in today (a rather grey and miserable Winter's day), an elderly gentleman sitting at the table next to me started singing along to Jimmy Cliff's 'I can see clearly'; I so very nearly joined him. It was the perfect moment, and it's just that kind of place. What else? I love the coffee -it's quite possibly Perth's finest- and the chicken salad (to die for!) I've had both the gluten free carrot cake, and a fruit scone, and I can honestly say that I've not tasted better. I love that it's got such a relaxed and welcoming vibe, that you can sit in the window and watch the world go by. And I love that they have a fabulous-looking selection of breakfast-filled open sandwiches- I'm looking forward to getting stuck into a few! It's called 'Hinterland' and it's just round the corner from the Scandi Loft. What are you waiting for? Get in there!
