Ok this place is nostalgic for me (Kim). I’ve been visiting Sandpoint since I was 5 (now 35) and this place holds a dear spot in my heart. Their food is good and they have an awesome lunch special that includes a piece of their delicious homemade pie. Check it out, please!

What I love about this place? The unique ice cream flavors. If I may recommend one thing it’s for you coffee lovers. Do yourself a favor and get a caramel flavored ice cream and add two shots of espresso, it creates a delectable treat called and “affogato.” I’m drooling right now thinking about it.

Sightseeing
Only a 20 min drive from the cabin, Grouse Creek Falls is a great afternoon adventure. A roughly half-mile hike along a rocky trail will take you to a series of sea-green cascades. You’ll have to wade through the water around a large boulder to see the waterfalls, so water shoes are a good idea for this hike.
While the trail is short, it can get steep, and there are sections where you’ll have to walk through medium-sized rocks. Before the falls, the trail forks, and you can go uphill or towards the creek. The uphill route is steep, leading to a lookout point over the falls. The trail to the right stays along the water and is better suited for young kids.
Directions: Head east on Highway 200 from Sandpoint. Turn left on Colburn Culver Road. Drive 5.5 miles and turn right onto Grouse Creek Cut Off Road. After 1.5 miles, turn right onto Grouse Creek Road. Continue 4 miles till you see an unmarked road that veers to the right. Turn right onto the unmarked road, which leads right to the parking lot.

For Babies:
I would suggest a baby monitor for naps in the river cabin, that way the adults can hang out outside and not worry about baby inside.

Hiking and Lunch Adventure
Check out this website for hiking ideas: Grouse Creek Falls listed on this website is one our family enjoys. We have a little half day adventure by hiking Grouse Creek, then heading over to the Pack River Store for lunch. A little about the place; its a gas station/restaurant in the middle of nowhere next to the Pack River. It looks like a place out of Deliverance but the food and customer service does NOT disappoint. It’s a hidden gem among the locals. http://www.pawsforbeer.com/north-idaho-waterfalls-copper-myrtle-creek-grouse-creek-snow-creek-granite-falls/

Longer Hikes Near the Cabin
Harrison Lake and Beehive Lakes are two hikes not too far from the cabin. We have only done Harrison and it’s definitely for those who want to HIKE, not go on a long walk. It ‘s not difficult, but definitely an elevation gain. Well worth it when you get to the top! I was able to hike it pregnant and my husband carrying our toddler so definitely doable! Bring lots of water and snacks and maybe a bathing suit for a dip in the lake(s). https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/idaho/beehive-lakes https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/idaho/harrison-lake-trail

Bikes!
If you can swing it, bring bikes, especially for the kids! If you’re a large group utilizing all buildings it’s nice to have a bike to ride around to each location. It’s not so spread out you can’t walk but two wheel transportation saves time and is just more fun! Jake also is in the process of adding trails in the woods which when completed will be a lot of fun for the kids to ride through.
