Our favorite place to enjoy the Chattooga River! Earls Ford is 15-20 minutes from the treehouse and is an easy .3-mile, hiking-only trail where you descend through a mixed hardwood and pine forest in the quiet, fresh mountain air. When you reach the river there are low rapids and a sandy beach area to enjoy the rivers edge. You can actually cross the river from this area. This is a more primitive spot and there are no restrooms. Bring some snacks, water and a blanket and enjoy the afternoon!

Whitewater Falls is amazing. It is about 35 minutes from the treehouse but well worth it. The 400 foot multi-tiered waterfall can viewed from observation decks as you descend down the stairs. The large 50 car parking lot is just .2 miles north of the NC/SC state line. Restrooms can be found on the entrance side and picnic tables and pavilions on the opposite end. The trail begins at the end of the lot from the entrance. The path is paved the whole way to the first viewpoint, with wooden steps down to the second viewing platform. After taking in the falls from the observation deck, follow the sign toward the Foothills Trail, continuing to descend another 100 feet. Immediately you will notice the much more rugged trail, littered with rocks and roots. In the shadow of the steep hillside, the trail is often wet with slick rocks so take your time and enjoy the views!

Yellow Branch Falls is 3 minutes from the treehouse. This is a moderately difficult hike. If you have a few hours this is a great hike. It is about an hour's hike to reach the waterfall and there are several creeks to cross, there are stepping stone and bridges. There are picnic tables and several trails to explore at Yellow Branch but no restrooms. The wooded setting and all the mountain laurel is just beautiful. Be sure to bring water for your hike in an out.

It is a great place that offers a variety of activities! They are located about 35 minutes away just across the state line in Sapphire, NC. (Text copied from Whitewater Equestrian Center Website) Become one with nature as you make your way on horseback through a variety of private trails. Experience a bit of history on both Native American trails and historic logging roads. On the wilderness trail in the North American rainforest, one of only two in the United States, the other in the Seattle, Washington, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the animal and plant life, as well as some local history. You may pass by John Green's grave, a famous local legend, and learn about his very interesting demise. All trail rides are great for beginner through advanced riders, with beautiful wooded scenery and mountain streams. Our well-trained horses will give you a fantastic ride. You can ride one of our Gypsy Vanners. Our most requested Gypsy, Sir Maverick, shown here, was a hunter jumper and we acquired him by way of Germany. You can see him jump on You Tube. Of course, he guides our trails now but we continue to be proud of his prior accomplishments. We strive to meet the needs of all our riders. Due to the terrain of the rainforest, our guided trail rides are at a walking pace. If you're shy about riding horseback, you can stay behind at the barn and partake in gem mining. We have small buckets or large buckets and each contains about 20 polished gems ready to make jewelry. You can also go online and research your gems to find out their origin and type. Or if you'd rather just relax in the seating area and take in the fresh air and take in some of Mr. Hinkle's famous Indian stories, you're always welcome to do so. Don't forget to swing through our gift shop and purchase a t-shirt or other trinkets. The gift shop is located to the right of the main office, through the sliding glass door. We welcome you to take photos of our various pets on the farm as well!

Great food and stunning expansive mountain views! Less than 15 minutes away.... A lot of our guests stop in and enjoy brunch after they check out out of the treehouse. Mountain view are absolutely stunning and the food is fresh and much of it is locally grown. They offer delicious local grain-fed beef. This is a definite MUST SEE. There is also a distillery there on the property where you can sample fine spirits made right there on the premises and meet the spirit maker as well. (Closed on Sunday) There are SEASONAL & HOLIDAY HOURS for the Bistro, call to make sure they are open 8464-647-9768 Even if the Bistro isn't open you can still enjoy the stunning views! Don't miss seeing this place.

It’s the local favorite. Totally don’t go thinking your going to get a steak. They don’t serve steak. Not sure of how their name came about but nevertheless it’s a great place to get as close to a home cooked meal as you’ll find.
