Guidebook for Chania
Parks & Nature
If you feel like going for a hike, wake up at 6am to get the coach from the central bus station at 7 am (no later-the heat is strong) for Omalo (highest mountain in Chania) & Samaria Gorge. After about 1 hour coach ride, you arrive at Omalos & start at the top and through the gorge. 5-6 hours later you are out & have to walk for another 30 minutes until you reach ‘Agia Roumeli’, a village with lots of taverns and beaches. The gorge is beautiful with lots of plants and trees and also Kri-Kri. Make sure you wear good sports shoes though &that you carry some food/fruit & a bottle of water (& lots of sunscreen!). There are many sources of water that you can refill your bottle inside the gorge.

This is a fish tavern we regularly go to as the fish is always fresh and it has competitive prices. The owner and staff are always very friendly too.

Sightseeing
You can walk around the old harbour promenade, towards the Lighthouse, or even take a boat across and enjoy the view from the lighthouse during sunset. It is a nice walk during the sunset to enjoy the calm of the sea around you and the night island breeze on a hot day. There also used to be some underwater paintings that you could see while walking.
