Pick up groceries, get a frosty (summer only), and chat with the locals on the bench outside. They have a grill and a deli and make great burgers. Their grill and deli is the only "restaurant" that is open daily year round.

Most hike from Mexico to Canada and since Sierra City is pretty much the midway point, they often stop for a couple days while they recharge their batteries and resupply. They pick up their supplies from the post office, often including a new pair of shoes for the second part of their journey.

If you are interested in the mining history of Sierra City, it is worth a look. They have a nice museum and tour. Sometimes they do concerts in the summer.
