It is a fabulous artwork by world renowned architect and artist Frederisch Hundertwasser, who lived in Kawakawa for 25 years until his death. He gifted the artwork to the local council and renewed the toilets with his artwork and architecture. We are very proud of our 'loos'.

Ever seen a steam engine travel down the middle of a major road? BOI Vintage rail is an iconic steam engine, maintained since the coal mining days of the north. "Gabriel" is a beautifully restored steam engine that goes for a seven kilometre ride through the countryside. A very well stocked delicatessen that has local products and keeps prices low. Very careful to source local fresh produce and other products such as cheese, wine, fruit and vegetables. Very good coffee also. Very environmentally sustainable.
