It is one of the most characteristic forts of the entire defensive walls of Genoa. It was built in 1758 right on the summit of Mount Diamante, about 667 meters high.
The dominant position of the Polcevera Valley and the Bisagno Valley and the distance from the city centre made the Fort the first defensive bulwark of the city against the incursions coming from the North.
