The Tapestry of Creation or Girona Tapestry is a Romanesque panel of needlework from the 11th century, housed in the Museum of the Cathedral of Girona. Recently restored, this stunning creation is a delightful surprise for visitors to the cathedral. Describing its magnificence in The Telegraph article: ‘The goodness of creation all sewn up’, Christopher Howse starts off by saying he “saw one of the wonders of the world a few days ago …” Google to learn more about this fascinating gem, and better still – go and have a look!

What better way to get a spectacular view of Girona and the surrounding region than to walk the City Walls. Built to ward off the enemy, Passeig de la Muralla provides a Roman ‘walk-way’ giving you a bird’s-eye view. Join the ‘Wall’ from the gardens behind the magnificent Cathedral rising up over the cobbled medieval streets. Or begin near Plaza Catalunya & take-in the stunning views across the city to the volcanic hills of the Garrotxa National Park. Look down on historical sites nestled amongst beautiful buildings where the gentry once lived. Walking along the ‘Passeig’ you’ll pass a Roman loo built into the ramparts. Sit here and admire the views as many a Roman did when not under seige!

Essentials

The best 'fruit & veg' shop in town, although Casa Ametller offers much more than this, has a great selection of yoghurts, puddings, and soups, to name a few. Direct from the 'grower', Casa Ametller is very popular with locals. Best times to go ... mid mornings or afternoons, or quench your thirst after sightseeing and enjoy a freshly-pressed juice or smoothie.
