You can rely on local transport shuttle services if you don't want to drive your vehicle over to the south side. We highly recommend dining here. Sightseeing

We live in arguably one of the most beautiful and unspoiled parts of the world. Development has happened quite organically and modestly here, and you'll find such a down to earth feel, in your time here. It's a feeling that keeps many folks wanting to return to experience again and again. There are countless places, and look-off points, sunset perches, trails, historic destinations, wildlife encounters and view points that will draw you in here. Some of these places are off the beaten path and lesser known, but frequented by the locals. Best advice would be, when you arrive here, chat and strike up a conversation with the local people and learn about the charm of this place first hand, and take the little trail junctures and off shoots and remain curious. It's sure to lead you somewhere very special.
This is a "once upon a time" old settlement, and a fabulous spot to kayak over to, have a bonfire, and just watch the sunset between the opening of Bonne Bay. Unaccessible by foot or by roads; only by water craft.

Absolutely spectacular scenery of this billion year old glacial carved valley & landlocked fjord. Walking the trail from the parking lot/main entrance, to the boat departure ramp - you'll want to give yourself 45mins. Beautiful scenery on the way, but nothing can compare to taking the boat tour that shows you deep within the land locked freshwater fjord. Or, if you're into more rugged style hiking, there's a fabulous hike and overnight camping spot in Snugg Harbour that boasts views as seen in this thumbnail photograph. It's a truly breathtaking spot!

Step inside the fish store and tiny cabin and imagine the lives of the three Mudge brothers and their families who fished at Broom Point from 1941 to 1975. The wooden buildings, hand built boats, fishing gear and homey cabin recall the inshore fishery in open boats that once sustained Newfoundland's coastal communities. Parks Canada guides from the local area keep the story alive. Explore the rocky point, the garden hidden in the tuckamore, and the cemetery in the nearby cove.** Not to be missed is the walk along "Stephens Trail". It can be accessed from the main parking lot, and is a short distance which opens up onto the views of Western Brook Beach, the river mouth, and one of the most beautiful perspectives of Western Brook Fjord. **taken from Parks website

This is one of our favourite coastline trails. It leaves from this campsite area, and skirts the shoreline south, following along what was once the old mail route road, for the region. "A short pathway leads to the shoreline for close up views of the rocks or follow the cliff top pathway to a spectacular view over the point. Explore Green Point’s seaside cliffs, a beautiful and intriguing sequence of layered rocks. Almost 500 million years ago, these rocks formed on the bottom of an ancient ocean. Here geologists discovered fossils that define the boundary between the Cambrian and Ordovician periods and makes Green Point a world geological benchmark. Located off route 430, 500 m north of the Green Point campground. Best visited at low tide. For your safety, watch for falling rocks and stay back from the cliff edge." - an excerpt from the GMNP website

This company hosts top notch experiences. On occasion we've pre-ordered one of their "picnic baskets" and a beautiful option is taking one of these picnics to Shallow Bay beach day use area, and go enjoy it on the beach or in Parks Canada's fabulous, remodelled cook shelter, maybe catch sunset there, which is always an incredible show from there.
