Food Scene

Nightingale has some of the cheapest drinks in the cities…and by our count some of the best as well. The bartenders here are great, and almost all, if not all of the cocktails are $9. Oh, and they just happen to have one of the best burgers in town. No big deal. The brunch food is so-so, but if you want a great bottomless grapefruit mimosa, head here from 10am-2pm on the weekends.

This is our go-to spot for consistent brunch, lunch and dinner. Its open every day from 6:30 am to 2:00 am, so its actually harder to find a time it’s closed than when it’s open. The Ciabatta French toast is to die for, and their chicken sandwich is pretty kickass too. The daily happy hour and late night happy hour have some great specials, including what usually turns out to be a great “cocktail of the week.” Download NoWait to get on the waiting list before you go!

Lynhall is the hot, new coffee shop/food hall/full bar/work from home/people watching spot in town. Their espresso drinks are great, their Ethiopian drip coffee bottomless and they have a Lemon Custard to die for. You order at the counter and stake out your spot with an instagram worthy table number and place settings. We love the Lynhall!

There are now several Spyhouse locations in Minneapolis, including 2 within walking distance of 500 W Franklin. However, this location is the original and largest. It also has the coolest "industrial-chic" design as it is built in what used to be a mattress factory. Their drinks are all amazing, they make a proper cappuccino as well as a really fancy seasonal mocha. Skip their cold brew, there are bette options!

My favorite cake donuts in town. Sure, they may be expensive...but if you like cake donuts you MUST get their vanilla or chocolate frosted "darling" donut.

Ok, they may sell out before 1 pm almost every day, but Bogarts sets the standard for awesome raised donuts. If you want a bunch, make sure to be a door-buster and get there early in the morning!

This new restaurant is a new venture by the local owners of the expanding Red Cow franchise. Red Rabbit specializes in Italian food mixed with some wood-fired specials. Hands down, this is one of our top three favorite restaurants in Minneapolis. Their burrata is the best we've had outside of Italy...either get the ball to share or order the "New Margherita" pizza so everyone can have a taste. Most portions are small, so order three things minimum for two people. The one exception is their chicken parm: big enough for two. Download NoWait to get on the waiting list before you go!

Hell's Kitchen is a little kitschy, but they have a decent brunch and most importantly, a bottomless Mimosa and Bloody Mary BUFFET. Oh, and heavenly lemon ricotta pancakes. But mostly the drinks. They book up in advance, so make sure to have a reservation.

This little hidden gem is one of our favorite spots for a good breakfast. Every one of their dishes is instagram-able, and their breakfast potatoes and coffee are simply amazing. They're also known for a great dinner menu, and they're home to one of the top 5 burgers in Minneapolis.

Like Cider? This is our favorite cidery in all of Minneapolis and always has a good selection (12 or more) of their creations on tap. Don't be afraid of their seasonal cider!

There are lots of 3rd wave coffee shops in Minneapolis, but this one stands out because it is one of the few with a full breakfast menu. Skip the avocado toast and spring for one of the sandwiches, you wont regret it.

Had an arepa before? Who knew this little Venezuelan street food could provide the foundation for one of the coolest restaurants in the cities. Their yucca fries are our guilty pleasure and their El Diablo cocktail is the best we've had...in the world!

Drinks & Nightlife

This place is a speakeasy style bar, specializing in craft cocktails that tend to be more complex and have more than 5 ingredients. They also fueled our love for the "Aviation" cocktail, so they'll get lifelong credit for that. They're usually really busy from 8-11 Thursday-Saturday. Make sure to try their amazing burger!

Although it's not much of a secret anymore...often with a line waiting at the "secret" entrance...Volstead's is one of two authentic speakeasies in Minneapolis. You have to walk down the alley between Aldrich and Lyndale Avenues and turn in to a little parking area to find the infamous door with the red light over it. Knock and the bouncer at the top of the stairs will let you in. They also have live jazz and bluegrass several nights a week, as well as several secrets scattered throughout the bar (think bookcase doorway, phone booth entrances and the like). It might be a wait, but it's an unforgettable experience!

Marvel is the original Minneapolis speakeasy. When they first opened, we liked to be hipster and not tell anyone about them because their cocktails were so good! The word got out and they're packed every night from 8-11, but if you like a spirit-centered cocktail list, then you have to visit Marvel Bar!

Been to a distillery with a cocktail lounge before? Doesn't matter. Home to some of the cheapest and best cocktails in Minneapolis, this space is hidden away in a repurposed industrial building. All of their cocktail ingredients from the Orange Crema to their tasty bourbon to the bitters are all made in house and you can even buy a bottle to take home with you.

Arts & Culture

The Walker and the attached sculpture garden are not only icons in Minneapolis, but also the national art scene. The Walker is the modern art museum in Minneapolis, and often has at least one, if not many really decent exhibitions going on.

The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden JUST reopened after being under construction for over a year. Home to several new works as well as a lovely open concept, this outdoor museum is a must for any day that it's not freezing or raining! Make sure to get your picture by the Spoon Bridge or the new Hahn Blue Cock.

Some of the best views of downtown are had on the Stone Arch Bridge. You can walk all the way across or just halfway, enjoy the St. Anthony Falls and get a great selfie to prove you were here!
