Desecheo is a cute little local favorite where you can enjoy great drinks and food at a great price point per quality! We really enjoy the Trifongo, Churrasco stuffed Mamposteao and they usually have a special that can be split easily for a good price!

Mona is a sweet little spot for slow breakfasts! Their prices are a little higher than the average for the area but the quality of the food is dependable. We generally go for a stuffed avocado, or something sweet! Not a place to go if you're in a hurry :)

Car rental is the preferred method of transport!

Many people come with the false assumption that they can get an Uber, or Lyft at the airport. Aguadilla really isn't a spot that has taken on Lyft or Uber, on top of which the Taxis are hit or miss and can charge quite a bit. It's inconvenient, but the best solution is to rent a car. We do offer our guests early morning pick up from the Aguadilla Airport, with a ride directly to our Air B&B for a fee, paid and arranged ahead of time. This allows folks peace of mind since most flights come in at 2:00 AM and many car rental agencies close at 5 PM and open at 8 or 9 am.

"Buen Provecho!"

It's customary to tell people "Buen Provecho" when they're eating and you walk by or are sitting nearby. People here are very polite and whether you know them or not, odds are they'll smile and wish you a delicious meal. It's customary to respond in kind with " Buen Provecho", or say "Igualmente" which means "the same to you". I always get caught with a mouth full so I just smile and raise my glass in acknowledgment.

Shoe Recommendations

Puerto Rico on 3 pairs of shoes: 1. Running/Walking Shoes Almost all the walking you'll be doing is on Cement, Concrete or other hard surfaces; great walking and running shoes that are breathable will make a BIG Difference! 2. Sandals are another must! Something that works well on the sand and can be worn into beachside bars and casual establishments. 3. Dancing Shoes and/or nice dress shoes; Puerto Rico is a great place to enjoy dressing up and going out! It's culturally customary to dress to impress regardless of economic status or station when going out on the town (usually in groups)!

Defensive Driving Without a Rush

It's important to approach driving here with an open mind in order to most enjoy it! Defensive driving techniques are a must, here are 4 quick tips: 1. Merging at speed shouldn't be expected from people entering the highway, nor should it be expected that people will make space for you. 2. Allow for space between you and the car in front of you whenever possible, if they swerve, break, randomly change lanes, etc. to avoid something, you will want that additional heads up. 3. Signals aren't to be trusted. 4. Watch for obstacles! People, potholes, dogs, etc.

Panaderias; Great local food at local prices!

Local Panaderias are a great place to find food at a reasonable price. We frequent our local one about 4-6 times a month for local fare, delicious sandwiches and to rub shoulders with our neighbors and hear the gossip! They are so much more than just a food joint, they're the local social hubs! Most neighborhoods or barrios have one, and they vary in price and quality a little but mostly they're a great way to support local, eat well and save some serious money on meals! Don't expect them to speak English initially but if you put in an effort in Spanish someone will help you out!

Biking in Puerto Rico

Biking in Puerto Rico can be hit or miss. Aguadilla specifically is pretty used to bikers since it has a strong mountain biking, road biking, and triathlon community. That being said, as with the driving, the expectation is that you're both aware, defensive and don't expect people to give you space or right of way, laws of physics rule the road here. Most people are very generous, cautious and accommodating with bicyclists, and there are great trails, routes, and rides all around town.

Saturday Farmer's Market

We love the Saturday Farmer's Market! Small and quaint, it typically has some delicious food and trinkets to take home; from homemade honey, kombucha, kimchi, preprepared local food, snacks to take to the beach, Produce and plants, and gifts and memorabilia! The farmer's market is another way to make sure your money is going back into the local economy and a great way to support farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs, and small business owners all of whom keep the economy moving forward! Bring Cash, your own bag and enjoy the chance to ask questions and connect!
