Thanks to the name (“Twice as much spice”), you know what you’re getting into ! Luckily, this typical Sichuan restaurant offers five levels of spiciness so you can fireproof your palette gradually, and makes sure to mention that the owner never goes above a three ! Some advice, don’t show off too much, or you could miss the subtle flavors of these Sichuan treats: the famous pork dumplings with a bittersweet sauce, sprinkled with sesame seeds; tender potatoes sautéed with cumin, tender pork with leeks; flavorful crispy imperial chicken; sticks of dried beef that look like candy dusted with peanuts and chives...

Nice place to have lunch or brunch (but be carefull, on week-ends the queue can grow very quickly !) You can choose between japanese, moroccan, lebanese, french, burgers... and sit on one of the outside tables, or take your meal to a close park. I definitely recommand the decadent sandwiches from Alain !

“Recommanded by Lenny Kravitz” claims the menu ! So yes, the historic house (opened in 1979!) can be found in every tourist guide. Yes, the single-file line on the sidewalk is long. But none of that bothers us: in Paris, the kings of falafel sandwiches are right here! To be more precise: elastic pita bread stuffed with purple cabbage, cucumbers, raw tomatoes, tender eggplant and a handful of fried chickpea balls. With hummus/tahini sauce and optional harissa. Gobble it up around one of the rare free tables or take it to go. And conclude with a delicious cheesecake from Finkelsztajn.

A cocktail bar space with giant demijohns of eau-de-vie; suspended ham legs in the rustic, narrow trattoria; an immense back dining room with a gigantic tree structure that spreads out its branches between the big mirrors and suspension lamps…. The house is served à la carte: “fabulous Italian ingredients” (bresaola, Parmesan, delicious smoked stracciatella that you eat with a spoon); giant pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven (Parmatador with fior di latte, tomatoes, Parma ham and spinach; Puissance 4 with Gorgonzola, mozza, caciocavallo and ricotta…) No reservation : go there early (from 7pm) to be sure to have a table !

In his café with untreated wood that’s brightened up by Breton pop art, Bertrand Larcher, the (vi)king of crepes (three crêperies in France, nine in Japan), brings Breton and Japanese flavors together with his good, family-style galettes with incredible compositions (€6.50 to €12.80). Using organic buckwheat flour and farm-raised eggs, they stun with their outstanding ingredients: churned Bordier butter, artisanal baked ham from Brittany, raw milk Petit Savoyard, smoked Scottish Label Rouge salmon, La Coglaise andouille…. The result? It’s all insanely delicious!

Are you a fan of Japanese curry? It’s the first restaurant dedicated entirely to curry – the classic dish of manga culture. A shoebox of a space with four tables, mismatched décor… and that’s all folks! Simmered for hours before making their way onto your plate, her curries are very thick, creamy and lightly spiced, served with wholegrain rice, the meat of your choice (excellent fried chicken, breaded pork or beef), along with a miniature cabbage-corn salad and a few slices of pickled white radish.

The ambassador of seductive Japanese organic-coolitude, this stylish café (vintage chairs, multicolored ceiling lights, bare tables, a menu written out in crayon on the wall, vegetable crates…) provides nippophile Parisians with their own health food paradise: beautiful vegetarian, fish or meat bento boxes; spring rolls with sweet chili and soy milk sauce that are absolutely divine; refreshing salmon chirashi with sprouts and wasabi; flash-seared beef with a homemade barbecue sauce; tofu burgers (on the weekends) served with tomato sauce, roasted vegetables and a salad of the day.

This Italian caffè has professed its love to the gluten-free crowd. Behind the incredible Rose Bakery Marais glass façade, the mustachioed and aproned transalpine staff are busy at work in the long dining room with small leather benches and an épicerie feel (shelves filled with jars, ham and mortadella). Here, you’ll find a long line outside, and the same mamma-mmmesque stars inside: truffled pasta, pizzas, ricotta with honey…. In addition to a whole bunch of brunch-style dishes at lunch, served nonstop. On the week-end, do not hesitate to show as soon as you wake up to book a table for your brunch !

Contrary to the legendary Mary Celeste (the ghost ship found abandoned off the Azores Islands in 1872) this cocktail-oyster-tapas bar knows how to fill its hold. With it’s wood paneled ceiling, exposed bricks and dim lighting, come mingle with the international in-crowd after work while sipping on a fresh “66’Thunderbird” (tequila, vermouth, tomato water, agave, lime, €12) and nibbling on fusion plates: white cabbage kimchi surprisingly but successfully paired with smoked hummus; an excellent (although somewhat small) crab, fennel, hazelnut and verbena salad.

At this “authentic” bistro (Formica, mosaic tile floors…), it’s always lively at apéro hour (a burst of VDP, VDT, VDF wines, natural or not) under the unflattering neon lights in a jam-packed room that overflows onto the sidewalk. The liquid success is intensified by a menu of very respectable tapas with just as much flair: creamy burrata and zucchini tagliatelle (€8.50); poached eggplant on a mound of shredded tourteau crab (€9); roasted veal and fennel seasoned with an anchovy jus; a scrambled egg with salmorejo (gazpacho made with bread, €7); and roasted peach with a scoop of yogurt sorbet for a thermal shock (€6).
