Kristiansten Festning is a historical fortress from 1682. It was built after the city fire of Trondheim in 1681 to protect the city against attack from the east. It has a rich history and from this fortress you can see "strandlinja"; a topographical line along the hills of the Bymarka which was formerly beaches and sea cliffs. The "line" can be seen stretching out in the hills around Trondheim, but is best seen from the fortress, towards Byåsen

Munkholmen has been a part of Trondheim since the dawn of time. It was the years prior to the founding of the city of Trondheim in 997 by King Olav Tryggvason, Munkholmen had been used as an execution site by the Jarls of Lade. It has been used as a monastery at Nidarholm, before it became a fort and prison. In the 1940’s it was occupied by the Nazis for storage of anti-aircraft weaponry. A large portion of the fort was retrofitted to hold ammunition. Today, Munkholmen is a popular summertime tourist attraction and hangout for residents of Trondheim. From May to September, boats depart from Ravnkloa on a regular basis. Once on the island, visitors can take a guided tour (in English and Norwegian) or roam freely. There's also a small cafe/restaurant available.

Bye your food at the local grocery store.

Rema 1000 and Kiwi is the best and cheapest. Make a snack in the apartment and bring it with you. Eating out is expensive in Norway and Norwegians are used to eat their “matpakke”. (Food you bring with you). This is usually not allowed to eat in cafes and restaurants.
