Woodland Park is less than 7 miles from our home. The town is located at approximately 8,465 feet elevation and is the largest municipality in Teller County with a population of 8,228; the county seat is located in Cripple Creek. The town is known as the “City above the Clouds,” and was named based on the heavily wooded area where the town was established. Woodland Park sits among one million acres of Pike and San Isabel National Forest. It is a pristine mountain community that boasts of having over 300 days of sunshine a year. There are multiple dining options, as well as retail shops and other amenities you would expect in a town of this size. Surrounding Pike and San Isabel National Forest offers ample outdoor opportunities. The weather is mild during summer and cold during winter. Average rainfall is 18 inches and average annual snowfall is 89 inches. If visiting between June and September you might want to try an outdoor concert or the local farmers market. The Woodland Music Series offers outdoor concerts at the Ute Pass Cultural Center located at 210 E. Midland Ave. The concert series just finished it’s 16th year in 2021.

Winter Conditions

Road conditions can be extremely harsh in winter months and roads may be impassable for a day or two. All wheel or 4 wheel drive is recommended in winter months and provisions should be considered in the event you get snowed in a day or two.
