History The story of Crimson Dawn began in the early 1930s, when founder Elizabeth Neal Forsling, a native Missourian with a knack for storytelling and a keen imagination, hosted a Midsummer's Eve party for her friends and their children. Soon, the Crimson Dawn area became a haven for area artists and a place where folks could visit and be whisked 1000 miles away from everyday travails. Despite the name's rather clandestine undertones, there's nothing to be afraid of at this unique facility, located on the enchanted slopes of Casper Mountain. Map (PDF) Activities Indeed, kids of all ages love visiting Crimson Dawn Park and Museum and hearing the curator's tales about the mythical creatures that have long romped among the trees: witches, elves, and other forest spirits. Annually on June 21st, the park comes alive with Neal Forsling's story. Celebrate the Summer Solstice on Casper Mountain! Crimson Dawn is a day use area only and is a great place to picnic in the summer. Crimson Dawn area use permit to reserve the Woodland Theater is $50. https://crimsondawnmuseum.org/

The best little waterfall with a magical feel Rotary Park Casper's most picturesque park is Rotary Park on Casper Mountain. Located just south of Casper, it is home to Garden Creek Falls and the Bridle Trail. Since the early 1940s, it's been a favorite of residents and visitors alike. Map (PDF) Rotary Park is the place for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, picnicking, or just plain relaxing by the cool waterfall on hot summer days or snowshoeing in the winter. The park is equipped with grills and fire pits, so remember to pack some burgers, beverages and hot dogs to satisfy your appetite after hiking the Bridle Trail. Bridle Trail Information The outermost Bridle Trail loop is almost 5 miles long and rises over 1200 feet, offering spectacular views of the Falls, the city below and the surrounding countryside. The Bridle Trail is a popular hiking destination for many area recreationists. The trailhead begins in Rotary Park, ascending east and west therefrom. The trailhead begins in Rotary Park, ascending east and west therefrom, offering spectacular views of the Garden Creek Falls, the city below and the surrounding countryside. Map The overall loop is almost 5 miles long and rises over 1200 feet, with a 'tunnel' about midway known as "split rock". The average hiker can complete the outermost loop in about 3 hours but it requires much stamina and cardiovascular health. If you're pressed for time and energy, opt for a shorter loop on the west side of the Park. The Middle and Upper Bridle Trails traverse private property so PLEASE stay on the designated trails and observe NO CLIMBING and NO TRESPASSING signs. Hours The Park is open year round, weather conditions and snow accumulation prevailing. Hours are from dawn to dusk, which is defined as 30 minutes before sunrise and after sunset, respectively. County snow plows endeavor to keep Rotary Park Road plowed to the upper lot and trailhead but the cul-de-sac, restrooms, picnic sites, gravel road and lower parking lot are closed as long as wintry conditions persist. What is the history of the Bridle Trail? The Bridle Trail was built in the 1939-1940's by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and perhaps the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). It appears that the Bridle Trail was built on some of the original trails going up Casper Mountain when Wyoming was still a wilderness, wolves ran wild and mining claims on the mountain were everywhere. The 30's and the 40's were a hard time in Wyoming. H.H. Patterson, County Surveyor, surveyed the original Bridle Trail in September and October of 1940. It is the earliest mapping we have found of the Bridle Trail. The Park is open year round, weather conditions and snow accumulation prevailing. County snow plows endeavor to keep Rotary Park road plowed to the upper lot and trailhead but the cul-de-sac, restrooms, picnic sites, gravel road and lower parking lot are closed as long as wintry conditions persist. This is an excellent place to go trail running and hiking. Map is at this link: http://www.natrona.net/DocumentCenter/View/2064/BridleTrailHillShade8X11?bidId=

Dinos and Bones The Tate Geological Museum was founded in 1980 through a gift from Marion and Inez Tate. It was originally designated as the Tate Earth Science Center and Mineralogical Museum. Because ‘geological’ encompasses earth science, mineralogy and paleontology, the name was changed to the Tate Geological Museum in 2001. Located on the Casper College campus, the museum is a great resource to the community. Many local schools and groups come to the museum to add to their students learning experience. One of a minute number of geology and paleontology museums in Wyoming, the Tate houses a collection of over 6000 fossil and mineral specimens. Museum staff are always on hand to answer questions, help identify items visitors bring in, and make your visit to the museum an enjoyable experience. The Tate is certainly a great addition to anyone’s list of ‘must see sites’ when traveling through Wyoming. We are located on the Casper College Campus in Casper, Wyoming. To find us, type in “Tate Geological Museum” and Google Maps will take you straight to the museum.
