“Kent Falls is about an hour's drive east of West Hartford. The drive takes you along beautiful scenic roads, and is especially splendid in autumn. The waterfalls are gorgeous, and there is also a nice covered bridge, picnic area, and hiking trails.”

“Audubon Sharon encompasses four nature sanctuaries and 3,000 acres! It also has an environmental education center and wildlife rehabilitation clinic. Great trails and wildlife! Years ago, I interned here, and did their first breeding bird survey. I identified over 100 species of songbirds on the property.”

“Beautiful springs and streams run through the 2,300 acre park. The park's exciting terrain has resulted from the slow wearing down of its hard rock formation base. The Blue Trail crosses Cobble Mountain and several other peaks, offering outstanding views of the Catskills and Taconics. ”

“Trails through the park will lead the walker through centuries of land-use history. Heading northeast from the parking lot the trail utilizes the 1895 Berlin Iron Bridge, one of five remaining in Connecticut, to cross the Housatonic River. Across the bridge the Lovers Leap Trail heads southeast 1,200 feet to the rock formation that gives the park its name. From here, tradition has it, that the Pootatuck Indian Chief Waramaug’s daughter, Princess Lillinonah, and her lover plunged to their deaths. ”

“"The 34 foot high stone tower at the summit of Haystack Mountain (1716 feet above sea level) allows visitors to see the Berkshires, and peaks in Massachusetts, New York, and the Green Mountains of Vermont. A roadway provides access halfway up the mountain. Prominent along the road is a spectacle of foliage in the fall and an outstanding show of mountain laurel in June. From the end of the road there is a rugged half-mile trail to the top. Allow about half an hour for this walk if you are not a seasoned hiker."”
