“Yes, the ones from Pasteis de Belém are the original ones, and yes, they are delicious! But I must say that the ones served in Manteigaria are equally worth it! ”

“This is the bakery that brought bolo-rei (a crowned-shaped cake decorated with dried fruit that is usually eaten around Christmas) to Portugal and it still uses the same recipe as in 1829, the year it opened. Six generations later, Confeitaria Nacional is still run by the same family, though there have been some modernisations. In the summer months, it usually organises meals and cruises on a boat/restaurant with a view on the Tagus River.”

“ Brick Cafe is only 140 m from hotel. The menu is a bit small, but reasonably priced. Brick Cafe is supposed to be a nice place with nice food and coffee, nice decorations and prices weren't that high. The place is rather small, very cozy and friendly. ”

“To come by underground: In the airport there's a underground station. You will be in red line. You must take the train and Go until “Alameda station”. When you're there, you must change to Green line and Go until “baixa-chiado station”. When you arrive there, you must take the "rua do crucifixo" exit and walk ahead until a lifter called "elevador do castelo". This lifter brings you almost here. You will have to walk just around 200m. But the lifter closes on 9 p.m. and coming by underground you must take around 40 minutes. The underground costs 1,45/person, the lifter is Free ”

“I felt I had to include this one because I have found memories of this place since I'm about 3 months old. Amazing interiors, which include 3D tile wall panels designed in the 60-ies by a famous Portuguese artist Querubim Lapa de Almeida. Although the outdoor space is now a sterilised space after some refurbishments undertaken a few years ago, the interiors maintain such of the original charm. Not quite your usual tourist place in certainly not your usual tourist location, but Lisbon is a small place and if you do have the time then....”

“Small neighborhood “pastelaria” at Campo de Ourique quarter, established in 1943, borrowed its unusual name from the movie “Aloma of the South Seas”, as there was a cinema just next door back in the days. It won the competition for best “nata” in Lisbon in 2012, 2013 and 2015 and serves, in my humble opinion, the best creamy cakes in town. The pastry is crispy filled with a water mouthing smooth egg custard, luckily they are served warm straight from the oven.”
