“The North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh serves the people of North Carolina and all visitors as a top destination for compelling encounters with art, inside and out. A stunning permanent collection, and high-profile traveling exhibitions come through here. The sculpture garden is vast and modern. If you are lucky enough to be here in summer, their summer music series is contemporary, bustling, and the setting is gorgeous. Bring a picnic. If you plan to imbibe, buy your alcohol there, they don’t let you haul it in. ”

It’s close enough to other Uptown arts venues to create a day of cultural exploration. (Purchase the $20 Levine Center for the Arts Pass, which grants you access to four of them for 48 hours.)”

“70 miles away. This Georgia State Park has amazing views. This is my getaway place to clear my mind. A little bit of a travel, but well worth it. This place does get crowded, it opens at 8am and I would try to get there before 10 am to avoid the crowds. The stairs going down to the suspension bridge that goes across the gorge is a very good workout, especially on the way back up. Parking is $5 cash per vehicle. ”

“If you’ve got kids who are super into American history (or if you are) and if you like Parker House rolls and people in Betty Ross caps, then you will love this place. Otherwise, not so much. But it’s historic, and it’s an experience, and you should do it once. It’s fun and it’s part of the whole Thomas-Jefferson-worship thing we’ve got going on in this town. You’ll be served fried chicken and mashed potatoes and other southern favorites family-style by servers in period costume. The structure itself is pretty and historic, and the little stores are cute. Actually, I started writing this description with lots of snark, but now I kind of want to go there today with my kids. It’s that kind of place.”
