Voted 'ideal location'. Walk everywhere.

A lovingly-restored, elegant, 2600 sq ft, hacienda-style home.
0.4 km (0.2 mi.) from the square. Half a block to the Malecon, lakeside's palm-lined walkway.

Part of the Los Arcos 18th Century Estate. A charming reminder of colonial Mexico.

Security in an exclusive 'Privada' (cul-de-sac) in the prime, century-home area of town, bordered by the lake & gated at night. Enjoy views of the mountains and lake breezes from the 6,000 sq foot garden.

Against a back-drop of the Sierra Madre mountains, in a grove of five, towering, century-old Galeanas (African Tulip Trees) stands a sensitively and architecturally-restored (from the ground up) traditional Ajijic, hacienda-style villa.

2,600 sq ft of living space with soaring, sixteen-foot ceilings and 8 'Estrella' (star-shaped) skylights, all on one level, and architecturally beautiful.

Elegant, renovated, two-bedroom, with traditional, 'boveda' (basket-weave brick) ceilings in formal areas, and colonial palm-wood beam and grass-mat ceilings over huge L-shaped, screened verandah. On a quiet, tree-lined, street.

The guest bedroom with en suite has a partial-glass ceiling which allows you to see the Galeanas (Tulip Trees) during the day and the stars by night.

Need to sleep a fifth person? The antique, seven foot extra-deep (and flat) couch on the verandah provides a comfortable night's rest with access to the two piece powder room.

The restoration/design is by much-loved, and renowned in Ajijic and San Miguel, Cuban-born, Gene Fortun. Step back into the past, but with all the modern conveniences, in an 'old-meets-new' experience.

New, Chef's kitchen with rosa-morada wood cabinets, granite counter tops, antique Talavera tile from Dolores Hidalgo, and top-of the line Samsung chef's range.

Each huge bedroom, with vast closet space, has an en-suite three-piece. There is a powder room for guests in the main entrance foyer. The separate laundry/maid's room has a high-tech eco-friendly washer/dryer.

Spacious 17X42 Living/Dining room with 'Napoleon' gas-log fireplace and with two sets of French doors opening onto spacious screened verandah for a feng-shui flow to semi-outdoor living.

Or choose to eat outdoors by the fountain at table and chairs.
Quality, stainless, five-burner grill , protected under clay roof cover.
Five seventy-foot tall Galeanas - AfricanTulip Trees - provide a bird sanctuary and shade-mottled lawns and rock gardens, a stone's throw from the lake and boardwalk.

Leave your car at home. You can walk, public transit, bike or cab anywhere. Or, you can use the auto-door carport.

A prime, central location, less than 100 yards from the lake and the Malecon (paved promenade along the lake). Perfect for strolling, jogging or biking.

Our Privada (private, cul-de-sac) has gates that are locked at night. Fresh food shopping is just a five minute walk up the road. It is a fifteen-minute, leisurely stroll on the Malecon to Ajijic's square, cultural center, beautiful clothing, jewelry and gift stores, and excellent cafes and restaurants.

Ajijic, Jalisco, Meksika

About half a kilometer (0.4 mi) from the Ajijic Square and all its activities, Hacienda 'Los Arcos' was the best location in Ajijic when it began to be a gringo Mecca in the 1950s. It still is. It's eight, restored, private houses nestle between the lake and the scenic, charming, 'real' Mexican, 'Six Corners' neighborhood of The 'Barrio de Guadalupe' where so many Ajijic parades originate. Walk up the 100 meters to little, 'ma and pa' grocery stores there and see if you can solve the "How can there be six corners?" riddle yourself.

A Bit of History:
A large 18th Century estate, at what was then the West End of town (now very much 'Centro'), Los Arcos was bought in the modern era by wealthy Americans who kept horses and a 'rancho' around the turn of the nineteenth century.

President Lazaro Cardenas, in the late 1930s, began land redistribution and warned that all land not being properly used would be confiscated; a threat that did not die until 1970. So the American owners built an enclave of eight houses which became our community, the Privada Libertad.

Without a doubt, this is the best location in all of Ajijic. Consequently, it is a high- demand area, with no steep hills to climb and the perfect location to rest, or explore from, because Ajijic, apart from its other charms, has one of the best climates on the planet. You will feel that for yourself. Most people who come to Ajijic, come back, and many finally stay.

The Privada and Casa (house) are 90 meters (100 yards) from the lake and the Western end of the Malecon (boardwalk), perfect for jogging, strolling or biking the less than one kilometer to Calle Colon, the main, central (North-South-running) street of Ajijic.

Jose the gardener comes twice a week, Wednesday and Saturday for half a day in the afternoon. The housekeeper, Reyna, will do minor cleaning of your casa once a week, on Wednesdays 2 - 6. Liz V. our Property Manager is always available if the others cannot solve your problem.

My wife and I are retired arts administrators, educators, translators/interpreters. Depending on season and circumstance you may or may not meet us in Ajijic but our property manager speaks good Spanish/English, our housekeeper Reyna speaks good Spanish. One of them will greet you and assist you should you have problems. You will have their cellphone numbers. We are almost always an Email away. We like: 1. Being 'foodies' 2. Movies ('talkies' actually) with subtitles 3. Books - right now, Jordan Peterson's Twelve Rules for Life and Bluebeard by Kurt Vonnegut as well as Short Stories by Robert Graves. Life Motto: 1. 'Run Away!' and 2. 'Cowardice is the Greatest Sin.'
