Mekân
This Eco Nest is located in Pasajkap, San Marcos La Laguna, Atitlan. Very close (around 22 feet) from the water front, with spectacular views, this charming cute house offers unique advantages!

When we say "spectacular views" we mean that at all times you are in front of the 3 dormant volcanoes of Lake Atitlan: Toliman, Atitlan and San Pedro and 2 of the Antigua volcanoes: Acatenango and Fuego. Fuego is an active volcano, you may see smoke, sometimes lava from the bedroom window, from the stairs to the bathroom and many other spots on the property, certainly from the dock. Lava is visible at night, even lava runing down the sides of the cone of the volcano!!!

The view of the lake itself is mesmerizing, it captivates our senses, giving peace and well being.

Through gardens and stone stairs you can reach this small house nested among avocado trees, vines, dragon fruit cactus, papayas and eatable and medicinal herbs and plants, a food forest following Permaculture principles.

The entrance is hided by lush vegetation, one stone stair-case goes to the dray composting toilet and shower. The other curving stone stairs goes to the terrace, a space with veranda and breath taking views, a lovely space to spend time perched on "hamacas", have drinks, read or enjoy the view and the surroundings. In the middle of the terrace is the entrance to the house, with a sliding door. Inside turn right to a wall to wall window to a majestic lake-view. The kitchen is just there, the best place for cooking and doing dishes!!! A few steps away is the dining room space, a long mahogany table for dining, studying, writing, etc. Farther in the back, a walking closet with a nice window to the lake, a cozy meditating area. This is the coolest space to store groceries, vegetables, fruits, etc. To the left, a stain glass window and the stair case to the bedroom. The bedroom has one wall on the back, facing the lake is a roof to floor window and two more windows on the sides for a 180 degree view. It's a great cozy little room for two or for a single person. This house was built in 2,003 as a weekend house and had stayed for family use until Nov 2,017. The design resembles a European Cottage. According to the mountain shape, the structure is made with welded steel. Floors, roof and furniture are wooden. To built the walls we mimicked "Tapial", a Maya ancestral building method, almost gone extinct. We modify it by using pumice rocks (volcanic light rocks) between chicken wire and a few wooden frames. To finished this walls, stucco was used, as inTikal and the other Maya sites, for domestic smaller structures were built using Tapial. This house is a delicious cozy little place to enjoy Atitlan!

The king size bed in the bedroom is a futon with nice pillows and cozy comforters. There are some watercolors in the walls and small details to enjoy.

The kitchen has a table stove with 3 burners and pans and pots. There is a French press for coffee and a ceramic tea pot, cutting boards, knifes and wooden spoons. Wine and can openers, strainers and a nice selection of table wear.

Check-in is at 4 pm and check-out is at 11 am.

We are a 0 Waste facility. We gladly take all your organic waste to produce compost. Please place it on the red plastic container. You may take it to the chickens coop or leave it by your door for Juan to take it before 2pm every day..
All your non organic rubbish, you need to take with you. We also give used plastic bottles to fill with all sorts of plastic bags and small items to make Eco Brick, which we use for building. All villages have recycling programs. We do not burn anything in our property.

Our electricity is solar. Our solar system is design only for illumination and to charge phones and computers. Please charge your phone or computer only during pick sun hours. Otherwise it consumes the energy in the batteries.

Our system is not design to charge electric brushes, hair dryers, blenders or the such. If this is done the batteries will be drained and ruined. In such case the guest will have to pay all the related expenses to get new batteries.

The houses have two water systems. One is lake water, pumped with a fossil fuel pump, to a tank located at the top of our property and distributed by gravity to the houses. This water is for washing dishes, hands and taking showers. The other system is rain water, collected from the roofs and stored in tanks, then pumped to different tank at the top of the property and also distributed by gravity to the houses. This water is only for drinking, brushing teeth and cooking.

There are no western type toilets in any of our houses. We only have dry composting toilets which only use saw dust. No water is polluted with human excreta. We use human waste to produce Humanure and organic compost. All bathrooms offer hot showers, only during sun pick hours (10am-2pm) as we only have sun heaters.

Come and experience Eco friendly technologies that will improve your awareness and fill you with wonder.

Pasajkap is a peaceful and quiet area. It is not a village. There is only homes and agriculture. Lovely for bird watching and star gazing. Pristine waters for swimming and lush environment. There are no corner-stores or vendors of any kind around Pasajkap. If you need to buy groceries, toilet paper, candles, fresh produce, good home-made bread, etc, you need to shop in San Marcos.

Born in San Diego California from a Guatemalan mother and a Peruvian father, both outstanding people. At 65 years old, I am a gardener, mother of 4 amazing grown-up children, grandmother of 4 lovely grand kids, social anthropologist, life learner, journalist, and artist. I worked as an independent consultant for rural community projects in many different assignments for more than 30 years. Watercolor teacher in my own studio for 14 years. University instructor at Caltech, Art Center and CalPoly SLO, CA for 4 years. Now semi-retired, mostly conducting a personal agroecology project in beautiful Lake Atitlan. I am interested in inmersión learning as a tool to spread sustainable living models. Also interested in natural medicine, and ancient nutrition. I participate in workshops and research studies to learn more about healing and sacred arts.

Konaklamanız sırasında
We all enjoy our privacy around here. Our dock is a nice place to converge, enjoying nice conversations and mingle, if that is what you want. Sound travels up, so voices will tell you if there is people or not at the dock and you get to choose what to do.

The garden is spacious and we have a food forest always in process, with fruit trees and eatable and medicinal herbs (exotic and native) to enjoy. Each house has its private surroundings and pretty much there is not visibility from one house to the other, which is considered a nice advantage.

I live in the grounds and enjoy company and conversation as well as only answering questions and helping guests getting by. Feel free to look for me in the thatch roof house, up top.

Our team is formed by three young adults: Joaquin, Juan and Angelica, all very nice people, and myself. We all work in maintaining the beach, garden and houses. Angelica, Joaquin and Juan come every week day from 7:30 am to 4/5 pm and Saturdays from 7:30 am to 12:00 noon. When I travel, Juan sleeps over and stays on the grounds on weekends.
