This historic farm is a quiet place to stay if you're looking for a quick country getaway from the cities or if you're visiting St. Olaf, Carleton or Shattuck-St Mary's for a campus visit, graduation, family weekend, or a reunion. We're located just 20 minutes from Northfield and Faribault and a hour from the cities. Choose from our three listings to find a comfortable room that fits you to a T. The cookie jar is always full, breakfast is delicious and the coffee is GREAT!

Mekân
Experience the quiet seclusion of the Thorstein Veblen Farmstead National Historic Landmark. The farm was established on virgin prairie in 1867 by Norwegian immigrants Thomas and Kari Veblen and was the childhood home of their son Thorstein Veblen, world-renowned economist and social critic. The farm now specializes in sustainably-raised seasonal cut flowers. Our two acre garden produces an abundance of flowers for area florists, local subscribers, for weddings and other events, and special orders for individuals.

Nerstrand Big Woods State Park is just a stone's throw away if you would like to see the spring wild flowers (including the rare Dwarf Trout Lily), do some bird watching, experience the dramatic fall colors, or snowshoe miles of trails. If what you need most is a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle of your everyday life come sit on the porch, turn off your phone and get lost in a good book.

It's a scenic 20 minute drive through the countryside to Northfield, home of St. Olaf and Carleton colleges and Defeat of Jesse James Days, Minnesota's largest community festival, and about an hour's drive to the Twin Cities, Rochester, and Red Wing. If you need help making plans we can provide information about local attractions, events, and shopping.

We have three second-floor bedrooms available. This listing is for the cosy little west-facing bedroom with a single bed. The shared bathroom is just a few steps from all three bedrooms. The stairs are steep, as should be expected in a 150 year old farmhouse, but manageable by anyone of average fitness. We welcome families, but ask that children be at least 8 years old because the farmhouse is not childproof.

A simple, mostly-organic breakfast of yogurt, homemade granola, fresh fruit, toast, orange juice, and coffee, tea and milk is provided. Please let us know about any food allergies or restrictions so we can try to accommodate your needs. You'll find cookies in the cookie jar or some other tasty treat for an evening snack compliments of the resident baker. Lunch and dinner are available from a variety of restaurants in nearby towns.

We share the farm with our two friendly cats, Teasel and Big Kitty and we'd love to share the beauty and peace of our flower farm on the prairie with you as well. This is a working farm so reservations need to be made at least 48 hours prior to your stay.

Konaklamanız sırasında

We're always happy to spend time with guests interested in the history of the farm, gardening or current events but recognize that sometimes what people need most is some quiet time alone in the country. We take our cue from each guest.
