This ramble will essentially go through a vital neighborhood with long time and recent residents, craft breweries, artists and thriving businesses. We'll meet in the yard of a beautifully restored Victorian mansion now a community of about 20 people. After introductions and final selection of the route, we'll set off pausing in the grounds of a historic mansion. We will then continue, mostly on back streets stopping at 3 craft breweries, a beautiful millpond and the former site of a 19th-century brewery that, at one time, provided most of the ale for metropolitan Boston. Depending on the preferences of tour participants, visits to wonderfull, small restaurants can be substituted for breweries. Several of brew yard buildings have been artfully restored and repurposed as businesses and residences so these will be included. The West End is a principal neighborhood for Portsmouth's working artists and artisans so visits to some of these workshops is included. As the West End has a number of businesses that cater to visitors including a drop-in workspace, yoga studios, and gyms, we'll make stops as appropriate for the particular group. Finally, the tour will return to where it began and participants will be offered a beverage before they departing.
Some say the West End is Portsmouth's Brooklyn, a traditionally working-class area that is now becoming the place to be. I have lived, worked and played in the West End for 8 years. As a Realtor, I have toured many friends and customers through the neighborhood. Prior to living in Portsmouth, I participated in two Chambers of Commerce, Chaired a downtown revitalization program and started a green building organization. Finally, I am an advocate for solving climate change, speaking frequently and contributing to the local paper.
As a special treat, guests will be offered fresh juice made from sprouts grown on-site. Water will also be an option, but…
