This is a guided, evidence-based walk using nature and your attention to support you in re-orienting to your inner wisdom. We do better when our thoughts settle - and there's a lot that kicks up the thought dust! After a brief introduction to mindfulness and a safety check in, you'll learn a starting practice that helps train your attention, without judgment. You, along with up to seven other guests, will try on the first activity together; we'll discuss questions and then we'll start walking. During the walk I'll ring a chime and when you hear it, you'll pause your quiet conversations and practice the first technique as the chime sound fades. We'll keep walking, noticing the forest, water, birds, sky, or vistas of the day. Every twenty minutes or so you'll learn a new technique to practice. You'll take at least one practice you can use anywhere, at any time, to support you when your mind generates thought-whirlwinds. With regular practice you'll start recognizing what mindfulness looks like in your life - where you've already been using your attention intentionally without judgment, and where you can expand.
Hi! My name is Tia and I love guiding people to connect to the outdoors and incorporating mindfulness as a way to restore their internal compass. I've lived in the Portland region for more than 2 decades and led outdoor trips for years as an environmental educator. After twenty years as a vedic meditation practitioner and being a community health researcher I decided to integrate my efforts. I launched my business, Finding Mindful Now, LLC. (www.findingmindfulnow.com) to support people recognizing their capacity and growth potential through mindfulness. On this hike I'm working with nature to invite you into a container that's partially made. You contribute to that container, helping to reconnect to who you are inside. When the mind settles you can "hear" wisdom emerge when it's not clouded by thought static.
I provide a small journal and pen if you want to write down what you notice.
Powell Butte is an extinct volcanic cinder cone covered with micro-habits and views of mountains, forests, an orchard, and meadows. This listing is called a "hike" because of the initial incline and longer distance. As a licensed and bonded outdoor guide I look for parks throughout the region that provide a mix of settings and features to align with what research indicates nature and mindfulness can do to support health. Check my other listings!
