We'll be hiking at Tilden Regional Park, the crown jewel of the East Bay Regional Park District's vast park system. One of the oldest EBRPD parks, Tilden Regional Park and Tilden Nature Area have approximately 50 miles of trails to explore. On our hike, we'll point out landmarks and native plants, enjoy snacks at a lovely vista or picnic area, and go your pace. Our hike will start and end on a brief paved trail, wind through forested switchbacks and singletrack, and feature exposed hilly trails with vista views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Diablo Range (or ribbons of rolling fog, depending on the weather!). This hike is typically 3.5-4 miles in length with approximately 800 feet of elevation gain. You'll also have the option of stopping by Tilden's Little Farm, where you can feed and pet farm animals like goats, sheep, cows, and pigs. Whether you're visiting, new, or just not sure which hiking trails are the best for your needs, I'm happy to lead you on this hiking experience and help you discover new trails.
I've been living–and hiking–in the Bay Area since 2012, and since then have explored the majority of its trails by foot. From exposed rolling hills to damp redwood-covered trails, I love the wide variety of ecosystems and experiences our hiking scene has to offer. When I'm not lacing up my hiking boots, I'm an experienced trail running and ultramarathoner with past races in the all over the Bay Area, Napa, the Sierra Foothills, and southern Utah. I'm also a certified USA Track & Field Coach and a volunteer with a nonprofit called Running for a Better Oakland. My husband, Adam, is a plant biologist and works in native habitat restoration, so he'll join us to identify plants and provide fun facts. No matter the terrain, difficulty, or weather, there's nothing we enjoy more than being outside in the Bay Area's vast backyard.
I will provide snacks for our hike, such as trail mix, fruit, crackers, and cheese. Let me know if you have any food…
I will provide a first-aid kit and other emergency supplies. I can provide hiking poles and other equipment if you'd like…
We'll be hiking a loop of approximately 4 miles on trails in the Tilden Nature Area. We'll travel a few of Tilden's diverse trails, stopping along the way at vista points, lakes, creeks, and picnic areas for breaks. We'll start and end near the Central Park Drive circle, by the Tilden Little Farm.

These trails have poison oak growing on the sides. Please wear long pants and sleeves if you are concerned about poison oak. I can provide pre- and post-exposure wipes if you need them.
